Job summary

SA Metal Group in Cape Town seeks a qualified Mechanical Fitter for the SA Steelworks division. The successful candidate will report to the Fitters Supervisor and perform maintenance, inspections, and setup of machinery to keep production running smoothly.

Requirements include a Red Seal in Fitting, at least 5 years’ post‑trade experience, and the ability to work overtime and in challenging conditions. Training and development opportunities are provided within the company.

Qualifications

• Red Seal Trade Test qualification in Fitting.
• Minimum 5 years’ post trade test work experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
• Knowledge of typical power tools used in the trade.
• Own reliable transport.

Responsibilities

• Implementing Company maintenance procedures, including inspections on all plant machinery and routine planned maintenance.
• Set up and operate machinery/equipment and attend to breakdowns as required.
• Work with a computerised maintenance management system (CMMS) and reference drawings to plan and execute jobs; ensure OHSA compliance.
• Provide coaching to semi-skilled staff and work in a team to meet production goals.
