Your Role at impact.com:

As a Quality Assurance Engineer in the Finance Invoicing Squad at impact.com, you will treat our software architecture as a dynamic, living system, directly aligning your testing strategies with critical financial outcomes and long-term customer value. You will leverage high adaptability and numerical logic to move fast, avoid analysis paralysis, and build automated and manual testing structures that scale seamlessly as our platform grows.

Operating in an entrepreneurial, high-accountability, blame-free culture where ambition, curiosity, and diverse perspectives are rewarded, you will utilize Playwright, SQL, and API testing methodologies to deliver high-quality software. This role carries a unique dual mandate: providing direct influence through every phase of the feature delivery workflow while ensuring the persistent health of our invoicing and ledger infrastructures. You will optimize for future system health with a zero-tolerance stance on data inconsistency, delivery delays, or hidden single points of failure.

What You’ll Do:
Automation Engineering & Scalability
  • Playwright Framework Expansion: Design, configure, and scale a modular automated regression pack using Playwright to validate complex end-to-end user billing journeys, invoices, payment routing flows, and overall system interfaces.
  • Predictive Pipeline Execution: Ensure daily test suites run smoothly on schedule. Efficiently debug test failures using execution traces, video recordings, and artifacts to isolate backend root causes from superficial symptoms.
  • Code Review & Continuity: Review and action pull requests within the QA repository, ensuring that the automated test framework remains thoroughly documented with a strict focus on system continuity.
  • Cloud Infrastructure Emulation: Utilize cloud testing platforms to perform targeted manual and visual mobile web audits, evaluating layout boundaries and touch thresholds across diverse physical and virtual device profiles.
  • AI-Augmented Testing: Leverage LLM-based tooling and coding assistants to accelerate test authoring, generate synthetic data for edge-case coverage, and rapidly triage log signals. Crucially, you will apply a "verify-first" mental model—using AI for velocity, but applying deterministic, human-led verification for all financial calculations where accuracy is non-negotiable.
Data, Analysis & Manual Testing Mastery
  • Rigorous Test Planning: Review product designs and technical requirements throughout the SDLC to ensure they are correct, unambiguous, and verifiable, proactively recommending architectural corrections to engineers.
  • Abstract Problem Solving: Analyze ambiguous user stories, ledger requirements, and system profiles to break down complex architectures into detailed test plans containing explicit functional, integration, regression, smoke, and sanity test cases.
  • Advanced SQL & Data Auditing: Apply data-driven judgment and advanced SQL queries to review 24-hour application and batch logs, performing deep schema validation and database integrity checks to target high-impact failure points.
  • Financial Data & Jurisdictional Verification: Apply strong numerical reasoning to stress-test complex financial calculations. Design testing scenarios using mathematical models to predict and verify tax documentation pipelines, transaction totals, rounding logic, multi-regional VAT requirements, and changing tax jurisdictions.
API & Integration Verification
  • Backend API Contract Testing: Validate RESTful APIs, backend endpoints, payload contracts, JSON/XML metadata responses, and authorization protocols.
  • Asynchronous Middleware Verification: Intercept, analyze, and mock internal and third-party event-driven webhooks, web services, and API retry mechanisms to ensure financial records match application states under abnormal conditions.
  • Vendor & Compatibility Audits: Partner with product development to evaluate operational constraints and conduct deep compatibility tests with vendor programs and third-party financial systems.
Operational Integrity & Decision Quality
  • App Health Monitoring: Run morning system health routines to verify transaction metrics, audit Application Performance Monitoring (APM) dashboards, track leading indicators, and ensure system anomalies are flagged immediately.
  • Batch Operational Auditing: Proactively identify, track, and report failed, delayed, or missing job executions (such as invoicing and automated balance imports) across core services (finance-app, finance-jobs, and payments-app).
  • Process & Ritual Engineering: Embed structural excellence into daily engineering processes and team rituals. Maintain a tight cadence for logging regression and maintenance tickets, transforming everyday testing into a continuous optimization loop.
Communication & Influence
  • Strategic Translation: Translate complex engineering defects, API failures, and automated test findings into clear, meaningful business context for product squads, engineering peers, and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborative Defect Diagnostics: Communicate transparently across global teams. Document failures with explicit steps to reproduce, including raw SQL scripts, API payload/response blocks, network inspector data, and session recordings to streamline developer remediation.
What You Bring
Must have Requirements:
  • Playwright Framework Competency: Hands-on professional experience creating, running, configuring, and scaling web automation scripts utilizing the Playwright framework.
  • SQL Data Expertise: Strong relational database profiling skills; ability to troubleshoot platform data issues and write complex queries, joins, and aggregates to inspect transactional ledger logs and verify billing inputs.
  • API Testing Acumen: Proven experience developing, testing, or verifying RESTful APIs, inspecting HTTP response codes, and mapping validation payloads.
  • Analytical & Numerical Aptitude: Deep proficiency in manual testing methodologies, requirements analysis, exploratory testing, and web inspection, alongside a sharp eye for detecting hidden UI/UX layout and data anomalies. Analytical precision in tracking performance metrics is essential.
  • Agility & Autonomy: The ability to process feedback rapidly, pivot based on shifting product needs, avoid analysis paralysis, and balance speed with quality.
  • AI-Assisted Workflow Fluency: Demonstrated proficiency in integrating AI tools (e.g., Cursor, Copilot) into the daily QA lifecycle. You treat AI-generated test code or analysis as a starting point, possessing the critical instinct to iterate, refine, and validate outputs against ground truth.
  • Educational Foundation & Practical Background: Tertiary qualification or equivalent practical hands‑on experience in software quality assurance, computer programming, or systems engineering.
Nice-to-have Requirements:
  • Preferred Certifications: ISTQB/ISEB QA Certification, Partner PXA Certification, or technical certifications in Java, Spring, or Cloud infrastructure.
  • Cloud Testing Ecosystems: Hands‑on experience with multi‑cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) or cloud‑based device testing suites (e.g., Sauce Labs).
  • Domain & System Aptitude: Familiarity with transactional pipelines, Point‑of‑Sale (POS) systems, ledger logic, database tracking, or financial data consistency (including VAT and regional tax rules).
  • Legacy/Alternative Automation Tooling: Familiarity with alternative testing frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Jasmine, or Cucumber) paired with a rapid adoption velocity for Playwright.
  • Greenfield/Fintech Adaptability: Experience working in greenfield product environments or scaling early‑stage financial software infrastructure.
