Job summary

Mr D, a division of the Takealot Group, is seeking Mid/Senior Software Engineers to build scalable, reliable systems for South Africa's ecommerce ecosystem.

You will design distributed backend services, APIs, and event-driven components, leveraging a modern tech stack and cloud-native patterns to deliver high-impact solutions for millions of users.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field with 5+ years of hands-on software development experience.
• Strong foundation in CS fundamentals, data structures and algorithms.
• Experience building scalable, reliable systems and APIs at scale.

What You’ll Be Building

As a Senior Software Engineer at Mr D, you’ll architect and develop systems that handle millions of transactions and solve complex technical challenges at scale. You’ll work on everything that fuels the Mr D experience with the freedom to explore new technologies and interesting patterns.

You’ll be designing and maintaining secure, scalable APIs, developing distributed backend systems with stateless architectures, and working with event streaming technologies. From containerized microservices to cloud-native solutions, you’ll be at the forefront of modern software engineering.

What We’re Looking For

Technical Foundation

We need someone with a thorough understanding of computer science fundamentals, object-oriented concepts, data structures, and algorithms.

Your Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience) should be backed by 5+ years of hands‑on Software Development experience
