PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
My Client is seeking a detail-oriented Purchaser who will be responsible for the procurement and purchasing of goods and services. The successful candidate will be responsible for researching and evaluating potential suppliers, negotiating contracts and prices, and ensuring the timely delivery of goods and services.
This role is critical to maintaining appropriate inventory levels, optimizing costs, and ensuring that the company obtains the best possible value for products and services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage the entire procurement process, from requisition to delivery, and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Develop and implement strategies for the procurement, storage, and distribution of goods and services.
- Research, identify, and evaluate potential suppliers.
- Negotiate contracts, prices, payment terms, and delivery schedules.
- Manage and maintain professional relationships with existing and potential suppliers.
- Analyze market trends, pricing, and product quality to ensure the best value for the organization.
- Collaborate closely with other departments to forecast demand, plan inventory levels, and ensure the timely delivery of goods and services.
- Monitor inventory levels and identify potential shortages or surpluses.
- Minimize waste through efficient purchasing and inventory management practices.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and improvements to procurement processes.
- Monitor supplier performance and ensure that suppliers meet agreed-upon standards.
- Provide guidance, support, and development to members of the purchasing team
- Stay abreast of industry trends, relevant regulations, and best practices in procurement and supply chain management.
- Maintain accurate purchasing records and ensure that all relevant documentation is complete and up to date.
- Collaborate with finance and other relevant departments to optimize purchasing processes.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in procurement or purchasing.
- Proven experience in supplier management and supplier relationship management.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Proven track record of cost savings and process improvement initiatives.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Computer literate (knowledge of Sage Pastel would be advantageous).
- A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related qualification.
- Certification in procurement or supply chain management would be an advantage.
- Experience in the agricultural industry would be advantageous.
