Job Specification: Project Manager (Banking – Multi-Workstream Delivery)
Role Overview
The Project Manager is responsible for planning, leading, and delivering complex projects consisting of multiple workstreams within a banking environment. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in Payments, Lending, or Customer Onboarding, with the ability to manage cross-functional teams, external partners, and multiple technical and business streams. This role requires exceptional stakeholder management, organisational skills, and the ability to drive end-to-end project delivery in a fast-paced, regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Delivery & Planning
- Lead and manage multi-workstream projects from initiation to closure.
- Develop and maintain detailed project plans, schedules, RAID logs, and resource plans.
- Coordinate dependencies across business, operations, IT, compliance, and vendor teams.
- Ensure delivery of project milestones on time, within scope, and within budget.
2. Banking Domain Expertise
- Oversee projects related to Payments (local & cross-border), Lending (retail or commercial), or Customer Digital Onboarding.
- Work with product owners and SMEs to ensure regulatory, compliance, and operational requirements are met.
- Understand card schemes, settlement processes, lending life cycles, KYC/AML requirements, onboarding workflows, and digital banking processes.
3. Stakeholder Management
- Engage senior stakeholders across business, risk, legal, finance, and technical teams.
- Facilitate steering committees, governance forums, and status reporting.
- Manage expectations, maintain alignment, and elevate risks or decisions promptly.
4. Risk, Compliance & Quality Control
- Identify project risks, issues, and interdependencies early and implement mitigation strategies.
- Ensure compliance with banking regulations, security standards, and governance frameworks.
- Maintain high-quality project documentation, ensuring audit readiness.
- Coordinate multiple project workstream leads, business analysts, developers, vendors, and testers.
- Mentor junior team members and promote collaborative delivery.
- Facilitate daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and other Agile ceremonies (where applicable).
6. Vendor & Third-Party Management
- Work with external vendors, fintech partners, or system implementers when required.
- Oversee contract deliverables and ensure external teams meet performance and quality standards.
Required Experience & Skills
Experience
- 5–8+ years of project management experience.
- Proven track record managing multi-workstream projects in banking or financial services.
- Experience in at least one of the following:
- Payments (EFT, RTGS, Swift, ISO20022, card payments, digital payments, clearing/settlement)
- Lending (loan origination systems, credit scoring, risk, collections, lending platforms)
- Customer Onboarding (KYC, AML, digital onboarding platforms, identity verification)
Technical & Professional Skills
- Strong understanding of SDLC, Agile, and/or Waterfall methodologies.
- Experience with delivery tools such as Jira, MS Project, Confluence, Trello, or Azure DevOps.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and dependency-management skills.
- Solid understanding of banking regulatory environments (e.g., AML, KYC, SARB, PCI-DSS).
