About the Role

A leading national contractor specializing in heavy civil infrastructure projects is seeking a highly experienced and driven Project Manager to lead significant upcoming developments in and around Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal . This role demands a proven ability to manage complex, large-scale projects from inception through to completion, ensuring strict adherence to budget, schedule, safety, and quality standards. The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of project execution, including planning, resource allocation, stakeholder management, and risk mitigation. This is a demanding but highly rewarding position for a seasoned professional looking to make a substantial contribution to critical infrastructure in the KwaZulu-Natal region.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of major heavy civil infrastructure projects (e.g., roads, bridges, earthworks, water systems).
• Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope, budget, schedule, resource allocation, and risk management strategies.
• Manage all site operations, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and quality control procedures.
• Coordinate and manage multidisciplinary project teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and consultants.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, government agencies, and other key stakeholders, providing regular progress reports and managing expectations.
• Control project costs, track expenditures, manage variations, and ensure profitability.
• Identify and mitigate project risks and implement corrective actions as necessary.
• Ensure all project documentation, permits, and licenses are obtained and maintained.
• Foster a strong safety culture on site, promoting best practices and minimizing incidents.
• Lead project close-out activities, including final inspections, handover, and contract finalization.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• A Master's degree or PMP certification is a significant advantage.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in project management within the heavy civil construction sector.
• Demonstrated success in managing projects valued at over R100 million, from conception to completion.
• Extensive experience with large-scale infrastructure projects such as highways, bridges, dams, or earthworks.
• Strong understanding of contract management, procurement, and financial controls in a project environment.
• Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera P6) and standard office applications.
• Proven ability to manage complex logistical challenges and remote site operations.
• Deep knowledge of South African construction regulations, environmental laws, and safety standards.
• Willingness to reside in or near Richards Bay for the duration of the project.
