Job summary

SD Guthrie International South Africa is seeking a Production Technician for a fixed-term contract to support refinery operations from the control room. You will monitor and adjust refining steps, manage oils and gases, and assist with fault finding and process control using RS Batch and SCADA systems.

The role requires 1–3 years of relevant experience in food processing or manufacturing and a National Diploma in Chemical or Industrial Engineering.

• Experience with control room monitoring and refinery operations is a plus.

If you think this opportunity is right for you, we encourage you to apply!**Job Description:** **Fixed-Term Contract (3 months)****Processing:**· Monitor and control the Refining process from the control room· Minimise losses (leaks, spillages, double handling, reprocessing, material waste, etc.)· Assist with fault finding in the Refinery**Receiving:**· Receive oils/fats from road tankers and from UL transfers· Interact with drivers/contractors· Take oil samples and conduct analyses and/or label and forward to Laboratory for analysis· Receive Hydrogen gas, Nitrogen gas and Caustic Soda**Tank Park:**· Receive oils from suppliers· Conduct tank park stock takes· Drain AO & SS tanks and monitor stock levels**Neutralizing:**· Transfer oils/fats to and from the tank park and neutralising plant· Operate the Neutralizing process**Bleaching:**· Transfer oils/fats to and from the tank park and bleaching plant· Operate the Bleaching process· Filter bleached oils/fats into the buffer tanks/Intermediate Tank Farm (ITF)**Hydrogenation:**· Transfer oils/fats from the ITF and the Refined Oil Storage (ROS) tanks to the hardening vessels· Operate the Hydrogenation process· Filter the hydrogenated oil into the H tanks and recover spent catalyst (plate and frame filters)· Take oil samples, label and forward to Laboratory for analysis**Interesterification:**· Transfer oils/fats from the ITF/H/ROS tanks to the Interesterification vessel· Operate the Interesterification process· Filter bleached interesterified oils/fats into the buffer tanks/Intermediate Tank Farm (ITF)· Take oil samples, label and forward to Laboratory for analysis**Winterising:**· Transfer oils into the winterising vessels· Operate the Winterising process· Filter the winterised oil into storage tanks (W tanks)**Deodorising:**· Transfer oils into the deodorising vessels· Operate the Deodorising process (Lurgi unit and Rosedowns unit)· Transfer deodorised oil to the ROS tanks**Blending:**· Operate the post-deodoriser blending process· Prepare and add minor ingredients as required**Transfers/Dispatches:**· Transfer oils to UL and the storage tanks/tanker loading bay· Load oils/materials into road tankers· Dispatch materials to 3rd parties**Refined Oil Storage tanks**· Store and monitor refined oil stocks (ROS) (Quality, temperature, age, etc.)· Take ROS samples, label and forward to Laboratory for analysis**Chemicals make-up**· Debag and transfer dry chemicals· Make up chemical solutions**General**· Operate the Refining process with the RS Batch & SCADA systems· Assist with Production stock takes (monthly)· Monitor Refining conditions and equipment in the plant and make adjustments as required (Pressure, temperature, etc.)· Monitor run-off on rework tanks and check the spent earth bins· Change leaves for Winterising and TSB's**Material Handling:**· Handle loads by means of a forklift, pallet jack or a hoist **First Line Maintenance:**· Identify problem areas, diagnose the problem and report to the artisan· Clean plate and frame filters and horizontal filters· Change GAF bags as required**Data Capturing:**· Update Production and Processing log sheets**Lean 6 Sigma:**· Participate in planned 6-Sigma activities in line with Company objectives· Raise One Point Lessons and Kaizens as per target**Reporting:**· Complete shift hand-over report· Record receipts and dispatches into log book**Other:**Compliance and applicable legislative requirements (e.g. POPIA, LRA & BCEA)\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_\\_ **Minimum qualification:** National Diploma in Chemical or Industrial Engineering**Experience:** 1 - 3 years relevant experience in a related role within the food processing and manufacturing environmentTo apply, please submit your resume and cover letter outlining your interest for this role.
