Job summary

Abantu Staffing Solutions (Pty) Ltd in South Africa seeks an experienced Production/Manufacturing leader to manage all production activities in the allocated area. You will lead a cross-functional team to achieve plant goals, optimise costs, and drive waste elimination and continuous improvement.

The role requires a Diploma or Degree in Engineering/Mechanical, 3–5 years of related experience, and strong leadership, communication and strategic thinking to develop talent and engage staff.

Responsibilities

• Managing all production-related activities and the allocated production area.
• Lead and support a cross-functional team to achieve corporate goals and plant.
• Produce high quality product at lowest cost through waste elimination and continuous improvement.
• Ensure department aligns with the companys strategic vision.
• Progress monitoring and recording to meet daily/weekly/monthly targets.
• Assess achievement of production targets weekly/monthly.
• Ensure product quality KPI compliance.
• Maintain and enhance a culture of continuous improvement.
• Maintain interventions such as problem-solving activities to add value.
• Manage plant costs per KPI targets.
• Manage discipline.
• Ensure training initiatives are in place to upskill workforce.
• Effective change-point management to combat absenteeism and new processes.
• Ensure HSE/ legal compliance and corrective actions for injuries.
• Develop a high-performance DOS culture; lead by example with audits, workshops, coaching, and meetings.
• Encourage team participation in continuous improvement activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Managing all production-related activities and management of the allocated production area
• Lead and support a cross-functional team to achieve corporate goals and plant
• Produce the highest quality product at the lowest possible cost, through waste elimination, problem-solving and continuous improvement
• Ensure that the department is aligned to the strategic vision of the company
• Progress monitoring and recording to achieve daily/ weekly/ monthly targets
• Weekly/ monthly assessment of achievement of production targets
• Ensure the quality condition of the product falls in line with the said KPIs
• Maintain and enhance a culture of continuous improvement
• Ensure that interventions such as problem-solving activities are maintained effectively to add value to the department
• Maintain plant costs as per set KPIs
• Managing discipline
• Ensure that training initiatives are in place to improve the skills of the workforce
• Ensure that there is an effective change-point management system in place to combat the effects of absenteeism and new processes
• Ensure that the department complies with HSE/ legal compliance requirements in terms of potential hazards/ injuries, as well as taking the necessary corrective action for injuries and proactive measures to reduce the risk
• Responsible for developing a high-performance DOS culture throughout the organization
• Leadership required to set an example by promoting and engaging in the following
  • DOS audits
  • Managing by facts
  • Jishukens, workshops, and other improvement activities
  • Coaching and developing others
  • Leading the diamond meetings
  • Frequent review of the KPI boards in the work area
• Encouraging all team members to participate in continuous improvement activities
