Job summary

PepsiCo South Africa in Durban is seeking a Production Manager to oversee daily and weekly demand planning in a busy manufacturing environment. You will drive cost, quality and efficiency, supervise frontline leaders, ensure safety and regulatory compliance, and report performance to site leadership on a weekly basis.

The role requires a tertiary qualification in production management and at least five years in manufacturing, including three in a managerial capacity.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Production Management or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance standards and systems.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations.
  • Sound Employee relations knowledge.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience within a manufacturing environment, with at least 3 years in a managerial role.
  • Experience collaborating with Quality, Facilities, Engineering, Raw Materials Stores and Distribution.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily and weekly demand requirements within the manufacturing environment on a shift basis.
  • Influence daily and weekly production performance and productivity.
  • Utilize labour hours to maximize yields and minimize waste.
  • Ensure adequate staffing to execute operational plans and maintain specification.
  • Develop and train FLEs and direct reports.
  • Maintain discipline and adherence to the PepsiCo Code of Conduct.
  • Maximize quality cases produced per hour.
  • Compile and analyze daily production line reports.
  • Identify and address downtime and production variances.
  • Prepare weekly performance reports for site leadership.
  • Identify opportunities to improve production processes.

Responsibilities

What we're looking for:

To manage and control daily and weekly demand requirements within the manufacturing environment on a shift basis in such a way that it drives cost, quality and efficiency.

The jobholder makes decisions that influence daily & weekly production performance and productivity and balances several variables to the required service level of sales.

Accountabilities:

  • The management of quality product through continual monitoring of the line performance through the optimization of quality vs. cost relationship.
  • Effective utilization of labour hours to maximize product yields and minimize breakage and waste.
  • Ensure that adequate staffing is available to execute operational plans and that manning levels are at specification.
  • Ensure that development and training needs of FLEs and direct reports are fulfilled.
  • Ensure that discipline is maintained through the effective use of the disciplinary code and adherence to the PepsiCo Code of Conduct.
  • Maximize quality cases produced per hour.
  • Accurately compile and analyze daily production line reports in a timely manner.
  • Evaluate and categorize all downtime occurring during a shift.
  • Prepare a weekly performance report and feedback performance-related issues to the site leadership team.
  • Analyze the weekly direct cost variance report and reconcile previous production week performance to standard.
  • Check and ensure that all housekeeping, food safety and occupational safety standards are adhered to.
  • Improve plant audit performance and work environment.
  • Direct supervisory staff (FLMs) in identifying and correcting any unsafe conditions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve production processes and/or operating methods.
  • Improve on all quality weak link targets in AOP.
Qualifications
  • Tertiary qualification in Production Management or equivalent
  • Knowledge of quality assurance standards and systems
  • Computer literate (Access and MS Office)
  • Knowledge of safety regulations
  • Sound Employee relations knowledge
  • Successfully works with others in a management role: Quality, Facilities, Engineering, Raw Materials Stores and Distribution
  • Minimum 5 years' experience within a manufacturing environment of which at least 3 years at managerial level
