Job summary

The President Hotel, Cape Town, is seeking an experienced Head of Procurement to lead our end-to-end function. You will own strategy, sourcing, contracts, supplier performance and inventory governance to balance quality, service, cost and sustainability.

Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will head the Procurement and Cost Control teams and partner with senior stakeholders to optimise value for our 349-room property. A strong track record in hospitality procurement is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in procurement or related field.
• CIPS or equivalent professional certification preferred.
• Minimum 7 years in procurement/supply management with 3+ years leading a team.
• Experience in large-volume hotel/hospitality procurement essential.
• Proven strategic sourcing, category management, tenders and contract management.
• Experience in multiple spend categories: F&B, operations, services, maintenance, tech, capex.
• Knowledge of supplier due diligence, onboarding, performance measurement and master data controls.
• Strong inventory management, cost control, budgets and total cost analysis.
• Ability to analyze procurement data and measure savings.
• Experience with procurement governance and risk management.
• Experience implementing ERP/inventory systems and approval workflows.
• Knowledge of SA supplier market, B-BBEE and sustainable procurement.
• Strong leadership and negotiation skills; ability to challenge senior stakeholders.
• High integrity and computer literacy; SA work authorisation.

Job description

At The President Hotel, we’re looking for an experienced, commercially astute Head of Procurement to lead the end-to-end procurement function within our 349-room hotel. Reporting to the Director of Finance, you’ll lead the Procurement and Cost Control teams and partner with departmental leaders across the operation. As we continue our journey toward luxury, you’ll take ownership of procurement strategy, sourcing, contracts, supplier performance, inventory oversight and governance, balancing quality, service, cost, risk and sustainability.

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Commerce or a related field.
• CIPS or equivalent professional certification is preferred; a relevant postgraduate qualification is advantageous.
• Minimum 7 years’ progressive procurement or supply management experience, including at least 3 years leading a team or function.
• Experience within a large-volume hotel, resort, hospitality group or comparable high-volume service environment is essential.
• Direct hotel or hospitality procurement experience is strongly preferred.
• Proven experience in strategic sourcing, category management, tenders, commercial negotiation and contract management.
• Experience managing multiple spend categories, including Food & Beverage, operational supplies, outsourced services, maintenance, technology and capital projects.
• Strong knowledge of supplier due diligence, onboarding, performance measurement and master-data controls.
• Sound understanding of inventory management, cost control, budgets and total cost analysis.
• Ability to analyse procurement data and measure validated savings and cost avoidance.
• Strong knowledge of procurement governance, delegated authority, segregation of duties and risk management.
• Experience implementing or improving ERP, procurement or inventory systems and approval workflows.
• Knowledge of the South African supplier market, B-BBEE considerations and ethical, sustainable procurement.
• Strong leadership, stakeholder-management, negotiation and analytical skills, with the confidence to constructively challenge senior stakeholders.
• High levels of integrity, accountability and computer literacy.
• South African ID or valid South African work authorisation.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Developing procurement strategy, policies, sourcing plans and category priorities aligned with hotel requirements and budgets.
• Leading sourcing, tenders and negotiations based on total value, quality, reliability, risk and sustainability.
• Managing supplier contracts, renewals, due diligence, onboarding and performance reviews.
• Challenging purchasing practices and specifications where better value can be achieved.
• Overseeing daily purchasing, approvals and urgent supply requirements across hotel departments.
• Working with Finance, Cost Control and Stores to optimise stock availability, inventory turnover, wastage and costs.
• Identifying supplier risks and maintaining contingency plans for business continuity.
• Reporting on spend, savings, contracts, supplier performance, inventory, compliance and risk.
• Strengthening procurement controls, supporting audits and promoting ethical, local, B-BBEE and sustainable sourcing.
• Improving procurement systems, workflows and data visibility.
• Leading; coaching and developing the Procurement and Cost Control teams.
