Job summary

Sappi Southern Africa is seeking a Process Relief Operator for Outside Services in South Africa’s Utilities division. The role supports production by providing leave and training relief, ensuring safe and efficient operation of process equipment, and seamless shift handovers.

Key tasks include relieving operators, monitoring equipment, reporting faults, and participating in continuous improvement initiatives while adhering to SHEQ standards and housekeeping requirements.

Qualifications

• Matric with Maths & Physical Science or N3 in Pulp and Paper.
• National Diploma in Pulp and Paper/Chemical Engineering or related fields will be advantageous.
• Minimum of 0-3 months experience as Process Trainee/Production Intern.

Responsibilities

• Operate process equipment safely and efficiently in accordance with standard operating procedures, best operating practices and production requirements.
• Relieve operators across identified positions and perform all duties and responsibilities associated with the positions being relieved.
• Conduct effective shift handovers and ensure accurate recording and communication of operational activities, incidents, abnormalities and outstanding work.
• Monitor equipment and report breakdowns, faults and abnormalities to the Foreman/Operating Staff, assisting with troubleshooting and corrective actions where required.
• Support operational interventions and problem-solving initiatives, including participation in 5-Why investigations and other continuous improvement activities.
• Comply with all SHEQ requirements by identifying and addressing unsafe conditions and hazards, conducting BBS observations, and maintaining a safe working environment.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping and workplace organisation in accordance with the required operational and housekeeping standards.
• Participate in training, coaching and development activities by attending progress meetings, completing required interventions and acting on feedback to build section-specific skills and competencies.

Education

Matric (Grade 12) with Maths & Physical Science

N3 in Pulp and Paper
