Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering.
• 3-6 years of experience in process engineering with emphasis on optimization.

• Strong knowledge of kinetics, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and cross-functional communication skills.
• Safety and environmental practices awareness.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client, a dynamic and rapidly growing chemical company with significant operations in Mossel Bay, Western Cape, is looking for a dedicated Process Optimization Chemical Engineer. This role focuses on enhancing the efficiency, yield, and sustainability of existing chemical manufacturing processes. You will employ advanced analytical techniques, process modelling, and data analysis to identify bottlenecks and implement innovative solutions. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of process control, thermodynamics, and reaction engineering, coupled with a passion for continuous improvement. This position offers a challenging yet rewarding environment where your contributions will directly impact operational performance and profitability. You will play a key role in ensuring our client remains competitive through optimized production methods. The position requires an individual who is proactive, detail-oriented, and adept at translating complex data into actionable engineering improvements within the Mossel Bay area.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze process data to identify areas for optimization in yield, energy consumption, and throughput.
• Develop and implement process improvements using statistical methods and simulation tools.
• Monitor process performance and key performance indicators (KPIs), initiating investigations for deviations.
• Collaborate with plant engineers and operators to implement changes and ensure successful adoption.
• Conduct pilot studies and trials to validate proposed process modifications.
• Maintain and update process documentation, including P&IDs and operating procedures.
• Perform root cause analysis for process upsets and implement corrective actions.
• Stay current with advancements in process optimization techniques and technologies.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of process safety improvements.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations summarizing findings and recommendations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering.
• 3-6 years of experience in process engineering, with a strong emphasis on process optimization.
• Proven experience with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) and statistical analysis tools (e.g., Minitab).
• Solid understanding of chemical kinetics, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills for cross-functional collaboration.
• Familiarity with process control systems and instrumentation is an asset.
