Placements24, on behalf of our Richards Bay client, seeks a skilled Process Development Scientist with a strong Chemical Engineering background to optimize and scale up chemical processes for advanced materials. You will design, execute, and analyze pilot-scale experiments to improve yield, efficiency, and safety in a demanding industrial setting.

The role requires a master's or PhD in Chemical Engineering, 5+ years in process development, and hands-on experience with reaction engineering,

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in chemical engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of process development and scale-up experience.
• Strong knowledge of reaction engineering, thermodynamics and separation processes.
• Proficiency with Aspen Plus or HYSYS and data analysis tools.
• Experience with pilot plant operations and hazard analysis (HAZOP).

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Process Development Scientist with a strong background in Chemical Engineering to join their team in Richards Bay . This role is essential for optimizing and scaling up chemical processes for the production of advanced materials. You will be responsible for designing, conducting, and analyzing pilot-scale experiments to improve efficiency, yield, and safety of manufacturing operations. The successful candidate will possess a keen analytical mind and a passion for process innovation in a demanding industrial setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and execute pilot-scale experiments to evaluate and optimize chemical processes, focusing on yield, purity, and cost-effectiveness.
• Develop and implement process control strategies to ensure consistent product quality and operational safety.
• Analyze experimental data, troubleshoot process issues, and recommend data-driven solutions for improvement.
• Scale-up chemical processes from laboratory to pilot plant and provide technical support for full-scale production.
• Collaborate with R&D chemists, engineers, and production teams to ensure seamless technology transfer and integration.
• Prepare detailed process documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs) and technical reports.

Requirements

• Master's or PhD degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in process development, scale-up, and optimization within the chemical or materials industry.
• Strong understanding of chemical reaction engineering, thermodynamics, and separation processes.
• Proficiency with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) and data analysis tools.
• Experience with pilot plant operations and hazard analysis (e.g., HAZOP).
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and strong communication skills for effective collaboration in Richards Bay .
