Job summary

SIGNAL HILL PRODUCTS is seeking a capable Millwright/Production Engineer to operate and maintain a Packaging plant process, ensuring safety, quality and efficiency. You will perform autonomous maintenance, manage daily production and maintenance schedules, and uphold 5S and hygiene standards within the business.

The role requires a trade-tested Millwright with 1–3 years in production engineering, strong diagnostics, and proficiency in MS Office.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 certificate and N4 in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering.
• Trade-tested Millwright with relevant production engineering exposure.
• 1–3 years' experience in Production Engineering or equivalent.
• Shift production experience and ability to work in a maintenance-driven environment.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office; basic maintenance administration knowledge.
• Strong diagnostic skills and understanding of maintenance practices.
• Store walkabout and stock control awareness.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain the packaging plant process to ensure efficiency.
• Execute daily production and maintenance schedules and own machine performance.
• Uphold 5S, hygiene, and food-safe practices; participate in safety programs.
• Perform autonomous maintenance and assist with larger maintenance tasks.
• Contribute to shift meetings, log issues, and drive continuous improvement.

Job description

Overall Responsibility

The key purpose of this role is to ensure optimum utilization of the Packaging plant by Operating and Maintaining a specific process in the plant, and the execution of maintenance and asset care activities in support of the Brewery and ensure sustainability within the business.

Focus Area 1: Maintain safe, healthy and risk-free working environment

• Adhere to SHP Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) standards in all daily activities.
• Participate in safety observations, follow established safety processes, and report or escape identified gaps.
• Maintain 5S standards in the designated work area
• Always adhere to safe working practices
• Follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs), risk assessments, and safe work instructions.
• Conduct pre-task safety checks before starting equipment or processes
• Comply with SHP work practice for lock out procedure
• Full compliance with LOTO for all interventions
• Responsible for safe fault-finding under live conditions (where applicable)
• Verification of equipment isolation before maintenance
• Participation in incident investigations (technical input)

Focus Area 2: Manufacturing Excellence culture

• Consistently follows Manufacturing Excellence (ME) pillar tools and standardized work processes.
• Adhere to structured shift handover requirements to ensure operational continuity and information accuracy.
• Maintain the Operator Workstation/area concept throughout the shift
• Perform assigned Autonomous Maintenance tasks in accordance with established standards.
• Take responsibility for basic equipment condition, inspection, cleaning, and lubrication activities.
• Report equipment abnormalities and support restoration to basic conditions.
• Support the continuous improvement culture

Focus Area 3: Machine/Process area operation

• Operate Machine/Process according to standard operating procedure (SOP's).
• Execute Daily schedules: Production and Maintenance
• Owner of the performance of the assigned machine/process area
• Ensure process quality and productivity
• Ensure and maintain a safe and healthy work environment
• Carry out autonomous maintenance in process area
• Adherence to basic hygiene and food safety related rules and activities as per policies
• Actively participate in shift meetings, asking questions to test understanding and contributing suggestions. making use of the action logs to record issues, problems and improvement opportunities
• Constantly reviewing process performance against target, and recording short stops and correcting any out of controls
• Maintain all tools/equipment and cooperate with maintenance department on large scale maintenance performances
• Routine meetings, Visual management, Operator office concept, Problem solving, 5S, SHE, Quality at source, Autonomous maintenance

Focus Area 4: Shift performance

• Ensure the application and adherence to the administration systems and procedures
• Maintain documentation of a variety of activities and inventories through computer or paper systems for the Process area
• Perform administrative roles to ensure adherence to Process specification

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 certificate
• Minimum N4 qualification in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
• Trade-tested Millwright
• A minimum of 1 to 3 years' experience in Production Engineering
• Demonstrated experience in shift production
• Proficient in Microsoft Office package
• Understanding of Maintenance Processes and Practices
• Perform store walkabout and review stores bin holding minimum and maximum
• Strong diagnostic skills
