About the Role

Our client, a leading telecommunications infrastructure provider, is seeking an experienced and strategic Principal RF Network Planner to join their team. This role, based in Polokwane, Limpopo, adopts a hybrid work model, allowing for flexible engagement. You will be responsible for the strategic planning and optimization of radio frequency (RF) networks, ensuring superior coverage, capacity, and quality for mobile services. The ideal candidate possesses deep expertise in RF engineering principles, advanced planning tools, and a forward-thinking approach to network evolution, including 5G technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute long-term RF network strategic plans, forecasting future capacity and coverage needs.
• Conduct in-depth RF site surveys, analysis, and propagation modeling to identify optimal locations for new base stations.
• Optimize existing RF network performance through detailed analysis of drive test data, KPI monitoring, and interference analysis.
• Plan and design RF network architecture for new technologies, including 5G NR, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
• Evaluate and recommend RF planning tools, software, and hardware for network design and optimization.
• Collaborate with deployment and operations teams to ensure successful implementation of network plans.
• Mentor junior RF engineers and contribute to the development of technical best practices.
• Stay current with the latest advancements in RF technology, mobile standards, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in RF engineering and network planning within the mobile telecommunications industry.
• Expertise in RF planning tools (e.g., Atoll, Planet) and a deep understanding of propagation models.
• Proven experience with RF design and optimization for 2G, 3G, 4G LTE, and 5G NR networks.
• Strong knowledge of antenna systems, propagation characteristics, interference analysis, and capacity planning.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.
• Proficiency in data analysis and reporting, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
• Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities.
