AngloGold Ashanti is seeking a Principal, Project Electrical Engineer in Johannesburg. The role acts as the E&I discipline SME within Global Projects, driving technical assurance, risk-based decisions, and lean engineering practices from concept through execution.

Requirements include a BEng in Electrical Engineering, professional registration, and 8–10 years in mining power infrastructure with 5 years in Owner's Team EPCM leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Professional/Chartered Engineer registration (e.g., ECSA).
• 8–10 years in mineral processing or mining power infrastructure.
• 5 years at a Senior/Principal level within an Owner's Team managing EPCM contracts.

• Approve critical electrical/control deliverables and lead advanced engineering analysis.

OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

Acts as the electrical, instrumentation, and control (E&I) discipline authority and Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the Global Projects function. The role drives technical assurance, risk-informed decisions, and lean engineering practices across major, high-value Organic Growth projects from Concept through to Execution.

Role Accountabilities

• Technical Assurance: Approve critical electrical/control deliverables (SLDs, schematics, protection studies) and lead advanced engineering analysis (load flow, arc flash, harmonics).
• Project Study & Gate Support: Partner with Study Directors to define engineering scopes of work, technical management plans, and electrical design criteria.
• Value Optimization: Challenge over-design and unnecessary redundancy using Minimum Viable Solution (MVS) and lean owner's team delivery principles.
• Interface & Contractor Management: Direct EPCM contractors, manage complex cross-functional project interfaces, and lead technical vendor procurement for long-lead HV/MV items.
• Safety Leadership: Facilitate formal Safety in Design (SiD) reviews and risk workshops, including HAZID, HAZOP, and CHAZOP.

Role Requirements

Education & Qualification

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
• Professional/Chartered Engineer registration (e.g., ECSA, CPEng, PE).

Experience, Knowledge And Skills

• 8–10 years in mineral processing or mining power infrastructure
• 5 years at a Senior/Principal level within an Owner's Team managing EPCM contracts.
• Expert knowledge of HV grid substations, power protection, plant automation (DCS/PLC), and a value‑focused mindset capable of influencing cross‑functional global teams.
