About the Role

Our client, a pioneering telecommunications company, is seeking a highly experienced and visionary Principal Information Security Architect to lead the design and implementation of their enterprise-wide security architecture in Polokwane, Limpopo, ZA . This senior role is responsible for creating and maintaining a secure, resilient, and scalable security infrastructure that protects against sophisticated threats. The ideal candidate will possess extensive expertise in designing complex security solutions, a deep understanding of current and emerging threats, and the ability to translate business requirements into robust security designs. This position offers a Hybrid work arrangement, balancing strategic office-based collaboration with remote work flexibility.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and architecture of secure enterprise-level systems and networks.
• Develop and maintain the overall information security architecture strategy and roadmap.
• Define security standards, patterns, and guidelines for the organization.
• Evaluate and recommend new security technologies and solutions.
• Provide expert guidance on security best practices for cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP), data centers, and network infrastructure.
• Collaborate with engineering, IT, and business stakeholders to ensure security is integrated into all phases of the project lifecycle.
• Conduct security reviews of proposed architectures and solutions.
• Develop and maintain security reference architectures and design patterns.
• Lead threat modeling exercises and risk assessments for complex systems.
• Mentor and guide junior security architects and engineers.
• Stay abreast of the latest security trends, threats, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of experience in information security, with a strong focus on security architecture and design.
• Proven experience designing and implementing security solutions for large-scale enterprises.
• Deep understanding of network security, cryptography, cloud security, identity and access management, and data security.
• Expertise in security frameworks (e.g., NIST CSF, ISO 27001) and threat modeling techniques.
• Experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and their security controls.
• Excellent analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Relevant professional certifications such as CISSP-ISSAP, SABSA, or TOGAF are highly desirable.
• Experience working in a Hybrid model and comfortable with on-site requirements in Polokwane.
