Job summary

Placements24 seeks an Instrumentation and Control Technician for a major operator of power generation facilities in Queenstown, Eastern Cape. The role focuses on installing, calibrating, maintaining, and repairing instrumentation and control systems essential for safe, efficient power plant operation.

You will work hands-on with transmitters, sensors, valves, and analyzers, troubleshooting PLCs and DCS systems, and performing preventive maintenance.

Qualifications

• National Diploma or relevant technical qualification in Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum of 4 years' experience as Instrumentation and Control Technician in power generation or heavy industry.
• Proficiency with instrumentation (pressure, temperature, flow, level) and control valves.
• Experience with PLC and DCS systems, including troubleshooting and basic programming.
• Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols (HART, Modbus).
• Ability to read P&IDs, electrical drawings, and control logic.

Responsibilities

• Install, calibrate, maintain, and repair instrumentation including transmitters, sensors, valves, analyzers.
• Troubleshoot process control loops, PLCs, and DCS systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance on instrumentation and control equipment.
• Ensure systems operate within parameters and safety standards.
• Read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and manuals.
• Collaborate with engineers and technicians to resolve problems.
• Maintain records of maintenance activities and parts usage.
• Participate in commissioning and start-up activities.
• Adhere to safety regulations and company policies.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of instrumentation and control systems.
