Job summary

Grindrod Limited in Durban is seeking a seasoned Port Operations Manager to oversee daily port activities, cargo handling and vessel operations at our Durban terminal. You will lead a diverse team of supervisors, operators and staff, drive safety, efficiency and cost control, and maintain strong relationships with port authorities and clients to sustain our leadership in maritime logistics.

The role requires 8+ years in port/terminal operations, a Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Logistics

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Logistics, SCM or related field.
• 8+ years in port/terminal operations.
• 3+ years in senior management.
• Certifications in port management advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Direct and coordinate vessel loading, discharging, and yard operations to maximise terminal efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with national and international maritime safety regulations and company policies.
• Manage operational budgets, analyse performance, and implement cost-saving initiatives.
• Liaise with port authorities, customs officials, shipping lines, and cargo owners.
• Lead, mentor, and develop the operations team, conducting regular performance evaluations.
