Placements24, on behalf of our client, seeks an experienced Port Operations Manager to oversee all cargo, vessel and personnel movements at a busy Richards Bay port facility. The role emphasizes safety, regulatory compliance and the continuous improvement of port efficiency.

You will direct terminal operations, manage budgets, lead a high-performing team, and nurture relationships with shipping lines, customs and labor unions to optimize throughput and cost control.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Maritime Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in port operations management or a similar maritime logistics role.
• In-depth knowledge of port procedures, cargo handling techniques, and international shipping practices.
• Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, operational performance, and complex logistical challenges.
• Strong leadership, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Direct and coordinate all aspects of port operations, including vessel scheduling, cargo handling, and terminal management.
• Ensure strict adherence to all national and international maritime safety, security, and environmental regulations.
• Develop and implement operational strategies to enhance efficiency, reduce turnaround times, and minimize costs.
• Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including shipping agents, customs authorities, and labor unions.
• Oversee the maintenance and operational readiness of port infrastructure and equipment.
