Job summary

Vodafone Group Plc in Johannesburg is seeking a Platform Engineering Lead to own the data platform that underpins Big Data analytics and ML workloads. You will lead the platform engineering chapter and drive strategy, governance and cost management across multiple markets.

You will champion IaC, CI/CD, observability and data contracts, ensuring platform reliability and mentoring senior engineers in a high-scale cloud environment (AWS).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS, Engineering, IS, or related field.
• 7+ years in data or software engineering with 3–5 years leading teams.
• Proven delivery and operation of production data platforms at scale on AWS.
• Demonstrable people leadership: hiring, developing and retaining engineers.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve the data platform roadmap across markets.
• Lead platform engineering delivery through PI and sprint planning.
• Enforce IaC, CI/CD, automated testing and code reviews.
• Ensure ingestion, transformation and serving are built to standard.
• Instil ownership, craft and ruthless simplification in engineering teams.
• Manage cloud cost envelope and drive FinOps discipline.
