Job summary

Old Mutual South Africa is seeking an experienced Platform Engineer to design and operate high-performing, scalable platforms that enable business agility and rapid deployment in a dynamic environment.

The role partners with development, DevOps and infrastructure teams to ensure systems are resilient, observable and cost-effective, leveraging cloud guardrails and automation practices for ongoing optimization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, or related field.
• 7+ years of software and platform engineering experience building scalable services.
• 3–5 years experience with infrastructure as code (Terraform, AWS CDK, CloudFormation).
• Solid experience with observability platforms like Datadog.

Responsibilities

• Take end-to-end accountability for platform performance across dev, test and production.
• Build sustainable platforms meeting customer requirements and align with tech objectives.
• Implement SLA/OLA metrics, best practices and patterns across the platform.
• Lead resolution of platform service issues to minimize disruption.
• Drive continual platform improvements using data-driven insights.
• Identify and adopt new practices to improve analytical capabilities.
