Job summary

Old Mutual South Africa is seeking a motivated Junior Platform Engineer to join our technology team in Durban. You will help support, enhance, and maintain business-critical platforms ensuring stability, performance, reliability and availability.

Collaborate with developers, business analysts, DevOps, and support teams to deliver scalable software solutions that meet business objectives. The role builds on platform modernization, API work, and continuous improvement within an Agile context.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years' experience in software development, application support, platform engineering, or a related technical role.
• Exposure to enterprise applications, system integrations, or software delivery environments.
• Experience working in Agile delivery teams will be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Develop, configure, and maintain platform functionality and system enhancements.
• Support the implementation of new features, integrations, and business requirements.
• Assist with application configuration, customization, and development activities.
• Contribute to continuous improvement and platform modernization initiatives.
• Monitor platform performance, health, and availability.
• Investigate and resolve application defects, incidents, and performance issues.
• Participate in root cause analysis and implementation of preventative solutions.
• Support platform maintenance activities and production support requirements.
• Develop high-quality, maintainable, and scalable software solutions.
• Participate in code reviews and technical design discussions.
• Support all phases of the software development lifecycle.
• Ensure development standards, security principles, and best practices followed.
• Support and develop system integrations and APIs.
• Assist with troubleshooting and resolving integration issues.
• Ensure reliable and secure data exchange between systems and platforms.
• Identify opportunities to improve platform performance and reliability.
• Support optimization and tuning of applications and services.
• Contribute to reducing technical debt and improving maintainability.
• Work closely with business and technical teams to deliver platform solutions.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and delivery activities.
• Contribute to technical documentation and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
