Qualifications
- Matric
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or related field
Requirements
- Minimum 710 years' experience in a similar role within the mining or heavy equipment industry.
- Extensive knowledge of yellow metal equipment (e.g., CAT, Komatsu, Volvo, Hitachi).
- Proven leadership experience managing teams in a high-pressure environment.
- Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) is a plus.
Duties
Operational Management
- Oversee the daily operations of the yellow metal maintenance plant and workshops.
- Ensure all plant and machinery meet production demands and are maintained to OEM standards.
- Develop and implement preventative and predictive maintenance programs.
- Minimize equipment downtime through effective planning and troubleshooting.
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of fitters, technicians, engineers, and support staff.
- Set performance targets and conduct regular performance reviews.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce adherence to HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) policies and statutory regulations.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections of plant facilities.
- Ensure compliance with mining and environmental regulations specific to heavy machinery.
Budgeting & Cost Control
- Develop and manage the maintenance budget for the plant.
- Monitor and control operational costs, including parts procurement, labor, and fuel.
- Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or safety.
Asset & Inventory Management
- Ensure optimal stock levels of critical spare parts and consumables.
- Manage fleet maintenance records, service schedules, and warranty tracking.
- Optimize equipment lifecycle through strategic capital planning and refurbishments.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Liaise with OEMs, suppliers, and contractors for parts, service agreements, and warranties.
- Collaborate with production, logistics, and planning departments to align equipment availability with operational needs.
