Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a highly skilled Pharmaceutical Formulation Scientist for our client in George, Western Cape. The role leads new product development, designing and optimizing formulations for oral solids, liquids, semi-solids, and sterile injectables.

You will work with cross-disciplinary teams to drive efficiency, quality, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate holds a Master’s or PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences or related field, with at least 4 years of hands-on formulation

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmaceutics, Chemistry, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in pharmaceutical formulation development.
• Strong understanding of physicochemical principles, drug delivery systems, and dosage form design.
• Proven experience with common pharmaceutical dosage forms and their development challenges.
• Proficiency in using laboratory equipment for formulation development and characterization.
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements for drug product development (e.g., SAHPRA, FDA, EMA).
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute experimental plans for the formulation of various dosage forms.
• Conduct pre-formulation studies to understand drug substance properties.
• Optimize formulations for bioavailability, stability, and manufacturability.
• Scale-up formulation processes from laboratory bench to pilot and commercial scales.
• Characterize and evaluate drug product performance using analytical techniques.
• Prepare technical reports and regulatory submission documents (CTD modules).
• Present findings to project teams and management.
• Collaborate with analytical development, process chemistry, and manufacturing teams.
• Stay updated with literature, industry trends, and regulatory guidelines.
