Job summary

EnableSA based in Port Elizabeth is seeking an experienced Payroll Team Leader to oversee end-to-end payroll processing for multiple entities. You will ensure accurate salary calculations, timely payments, and maintain payroll records.

You will lead a high-volume payroll team, ensure compliance with SA legislation (BCEA, LRA, PAYE, UIF, SDL) and manage SARS submissions, reconciliations, and audits. Strong Excel and Payspace experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 and a Diploma or Degree in Payroll/HR/Finance.
  • Payroll Administration certification is advantageous.
  • Minimum 5 years’ multi-entity payroll experience.
  • Minimum 2 years’ supervisory/leadership experience.
  • Experience with high-volume payroll processing.
  • Proficient in Excel; Payspace experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for multiple entities.
  • Ensure accurate calculation and payment of salaries, wages, and deductions.
  • Review payroll data and approve before processing.
  • Maintain employee payroll records and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with SA labour and tax laws incl BCEA, LRA, PAYE.
  • Lead, mentor and develop the payroll team.

Our client is seeking an experienced Payroll Team Leader to join their Port Elizabeth team,

  • Oversee the end-to-end processing of payrollsacross multiple entities and payroll cycles
  • Ensure the accurate calculation and payment ofsalaries, wages, overtime, allowances, commissions, bonuses, deductions, andleave payments
  • Review and approve payroll data before finalprocessing
  • Ensure all payroll transactions are processedaccurately and within established deadlines
  • Resolve payroll discrepancies, queries, andescalations efficientlyMaintain accurate employee payroll records andsupporting documentation
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant SouthAfrican legislation and statutory requirements, including Basic Conditions ofEmployment Act (BCEA), Labour Relations Act (LRA), Income Tax Act, PAYERegulations, Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF), Skills Development Levy (SDL), EmploymentEquity requirements where applicable
  • Manage monthly, bi-annual, and annual SARSsubmissions
  • Ensure the accurate preparation and submissionof EMP201, EMP501, IRP5, and IT3(a) documentation
  • Liaise with SARS, auditors, benefit providers,and relevant regulatory bodies when required
  • Remain up to date with legislative and payrollcompliance changes
  • Perform and oversee payroll reconciliations,including PAYE, UIF, SDL, Retirement funds, medical aid contributions and Garnisheeorders and deductions
  • Manage month-end payroll processes andreporting requirements
  • Prepare payroll journals and assist withgeneral ledger reconciliations
  • Generate payroll reports and providemanagement with relevant payroll analytics and insights
  • Assist with financial audits and payroll audits
  • Lead, supervise, and support the payroll teamto ensure high levels of service delivery
  • Allocate workloads and monitor teamperformance
  • Train, mentor, and develop payroll staff toenhance capability and performance
  • Conduct regular performance discussions andidentify development opportunities
Requirements
  • Grade12
  • Diploma orDegree in Payroll, Human Resources, Finance, Accounting, or a related field
  • PayrollAdministration certification or related payroll qualification will beadvantageous
  • Minimum 5years' payroll experience within a multi-company payroll environment
  • Minimum 2years' experience supervising or leading a payroll team
  • Experience with processing a minimum of 6payrolls essential
  • Experience managing high-volume payrollprocessing
  • Experience with payroll reconciliations andmonth-end payroll processes
  • Experience with SARS submissions and statutoryreporting requirements
  • Experience working with payroll and HRinformation systems
  • Strong understanding of South African labourlegislation, payroll taxation, employee benefits, and statutory reportingrequirements
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Payspace payroll experience will be advantageous
  • Strong systems aptitude and ability to workwith large payroll datasets
