GE Vernova is seeking a qualified engineer to support outage management and power plant services in Johannesburg, South Africa. The role focuses on planning, execution, and delivering reliable maintenance activities on customer sites, with guidance and strong teamwork.
You will develop outage schedules, manage execution, produce post-outage reports, and ensure warranty actions are completed, while traveling as needed in the regional service territory.
All resources, and logistics required to perform services and maintenance activities on customers' site/property. These activities contribute to, maintain, repair and refurbish sold or existing products. Includes all types of maintenance service (preventive and remedial), manage maintenance facilities and field services engineering. Impacts departmental operations and responsible for planning/execution. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.
Outage event schedule development, Outage execution management, post Outage reporting, and Outage warranty execution Developing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline. Uses prior experience and acquired technical expertise to execute policy/strategy. In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. In-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area. Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside of set parameters but with guidance. Uses prior experience and on-the-job training to solve straightforward tasks. Has access to technical skills and analytic thinking required to solve problems. May use multiple internal sources outside of own team to arrive at decisions. A job at this level is likely to be an individual contributor with proven interpersonal skills or an early people leader who can hire and develop talent. Provides informal guidance to new team members.
Degree in Engineering or Project Management from an Accredited university or institution. Minimum 4 years experience in power station services. Good technical knowledge of Power plant - Steam Turbine and Generators. Ability to work effectively across functions. Financial acumen, knowledge of pricing and cost management.
Strong experience in the power station services and outage management. Excellent written/oral communication and interpersonal skills, customer focused, enthusiastic. Ability to understand and improve complex processes in a cross-functional environment Outstanding interpersonal, Strong communication skills, capable of influencing and driving execution of outage works on sites Willingness and ability to travel Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems. Ability to document, plan and execute programs Safety and Quality drive is paramount.
