Job summary

Department of Health in Gauteng seeks a registered Optometrist to deliver eyecare in a community setting. You will examine and treat eye conditions, coordinate district eye care, maintain records, and support budget and asset management while adhering to health protocols.

The role requires HPCSA registration, a Bachelor’s in Optometry, and a valid driver’s license with strong communication in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Qualifications

• Must have Grade 12 and a Bachelor's degree in Optometry.
• HPCSA independent practitioner registration with current proof.
• Valid driver’s license and computer literacy.
• Sound knowledge of clinical theory, practice and ethics in optometry.
• Good communication and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Render eyecare services in a community setting in line with scope of practice and health protocols.
• Examine, diagnose and treat eye conditions within Optometry scope.
• Coordinate and promote Optometry services in the District.
• Perform record keeping, data collection, and assist with budget control and asset management.
• Ensure quality audits at facility level and adhere to Batho Pele principles and policies.
• Collaborate with stakeholders and participate in student training, supervision and research.

Job description

Requirements :

• Grade 12 with bachelor's degree in optometry .Registration with HPCSA as an independent Practitioner with Proof of current registration with HPCSA. Valid Driver's License and computer literacy is essential. A sound knowledge of clinical theory, practice and ethics relating to the delivery of Optometry services within a clinic setting. Good communication skills (verbal and written). Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.

Duties :

• Rendering of Eyecare Services in a community setting in adherence to the scope of practice and health protocols. Examination, diagnosing and treatment of eye conditions as per Optometry scope of practice.Co-ordinate and ensure the promotion and marketing of Optometry Services in the District. Perform record keeping, data collection, assist with budget control and asset management. Exercise safeguarding of all consumables and equipment. Implement and maintain Quality Assurance Audits at facility level, Knowledge of Batho Pele Principles, Patients right charter, Ideal clinic and other relevant policies and regulations. Adherence to PMDS. Contribute and participate in continuous professional development activities. Work as part of multi-disciplinary team to deliver better service delivery. Collaborate with stakeholders in the eye care service delivery. Participate in student training and supervision. Participate in research projects in the district. Communicate effectively within the team. Relieve as and when the need arises. Perform any other duties as delegated by the supervisor
