Job summary

Placements24 seeks a dedicated Fiber Optic Technician for our George operations team. You will install, test, and repair fiber optic networks, reading schematics and operating OTDRs, fusion splicers, and power meters in the field.

A hands-on approach ensures high-quality connectivity and uptime for customers in the Western Cape. Responsibilities include proactive maintenance, fault diagnosis, and meticulous record-keeping, with ongoing training opportunities and a company vehicle provided for

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Fiber Optic Technician or similar role.
• Proficiency in splicing, termination and testing techniques.
• Familiarity with telecoms standards and safety protocols.
• Ability to read and understand technical drawings and specs.
• Experience with OTDR, VFL and other fiber testing equipment.
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record for George area.

Responsibilities

• Install, test, and splice fiber optic cables per standards and procedures.

About the Role

This role is crucial for the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic networks that are the backbone of our client's telecoms services. You will be responsible for ensuring high-quality connectivity for customers, working both independently and as part of a field service team. This position requires a hands-on approach, meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and service excellence in the beautiful region of the Western Cape .

Key Responsibilities

• Install, test, and splice fiber optic cables according to industry standards and company procedures.
• Diagnose and repair fiber optic network faults and outages, ensuring minimal downtime.
• Perform regular maintenance checks and proactive repairs on fiber optic infrastructure.
• Read and interpret fiber optic schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
• Operate specialized testing equipment, such as OTDRs, fusion splicers, and power meters.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, including installation details and test results.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Fiber Optic Technician or in a similar role.
