About Wessels

The South Africa Manganese operation can be found in the manganese rich Kalahari Basin, in the country’s Northern Cape, which is home to 80 per cent of the world’s manganese. This position is based at our Wessels Mine which represents one of the largest manganese reserves in South Africa.

About the Role

This role is a permanent full-time position.

As an Operator Charging Crew, you will be responsible for assisting with charging up of grilled holes with explosives and accessories;

Other key responsibilities include, but aren’t limited to:

• Prepare primers in the Primers bay;
• Handle explosives in the mining environment;
• Destroy old explosives in an underground workplace;
• De-water and de-sludge blast holes;
• Charge shot holes with primed explosives, bulk explosives, cartridge explosives and accessories;
• Barricade charged faces;
• Assist with blasting operations (Blasting guards, etc);
• Pump water using Submersible De-watering Pumps.

About You

You will have experience and demonstrate capability in the following:

• Must have a minimum of 1 year working relevant experience in a mining operation.

Qualifications for this role are:

• Serious contenders will have a Grade 12 with Maths & Science/Grade 10 (internal candidates);
• Competency B Certificate is advantageous;
• Valid Code 08 Driver’s license is advantageous.
