Qualifications

About the Role

Our client, a reputable and expanding FMCG food production company, is seeking a highly experienced and results-oriented Operations Manager to oversee their manufacturing facility in Bloemfontein, Free State. This critical role will be responsible for ensuring the efficient, safe, and high-quality production of food products, managing all aspects of the plant operations from raw material intake to finished goods dispatch. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in food manufacturing operations, a deep understanding of production processes, quality control, and supply chain management within the FMCG sector. You will lead a dedicated team of production staff, drive continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure compliance with all industry regulations and safety standards. Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all day-to-day manufacturing operations, ensuring production targets are met efficiently and effectively.


• Implement and maintain rigorous quality control standards and food safety protocols (e.g., HACCP, ISO).


• Manage production schedules, optimize resource allocation, and minimize downtime.


• Lead, train, and motivate the production team, fostering a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.


• Oversee inventory management of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods.


• Manage maintenance schedules and ensure all equipment is in optimal working condition.


• Develop and manage the plant's operational budget, identifying cost-saving opportunities.


• Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.


• Collaborate with other departments such as Supply Chain, Sales, and R&D to ensure seamless operations.


• Drive initiatives for process improvement and operational excellence.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field.


• Minimum of 8 years of experience in manufacturing operations, with at least 5 years in a management role within the FMCG food production industry.


• Proven track record of managing production facilities and achieving operational excellence.


• Strong knowledge of food safety standards, quality management systems, and regulatory compliance.


• Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.


• Experience with production planning, inventory control, and process optimization techniques.


• Proficiency in ERP systems and production management software.


• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.


• Must be based in or willing to relocate to Bloemfontein, Free State.


• Must be legally authorized to work in South Africa.
