About the Role

Our client, a leading industrial manufacturer, is seeking a strategic and experienced Operations Director to lead their extensive operations in the Soweto, Gauteng region. This senior leadership position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of manufacturing, production, supply chain, and logistics to ensure operational excellence, efficiency, and profitability. The ideal candidate will possess a proven track record in managing large-scale operations, a deep understanding of manufacturing best practices, and exceptional leadership capabilities. You will drive strategic initiatives, optimize resource allocation, and foster a culture of high performance and continuous improvement across the entire operational division. Key Responsibilities

Develop and execute the overall operations strategy in alignment with the company's business objectives. Oversee all manufacturing and production activities, ensuring targets for output, quality, cost, and safety are met and exceeded. Manage the supply chain, logistics, procurement, and inventory control functions to optimize efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of operations managers and staff. Implement and champion continuous improvement initiatives, including Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma programs, across all operational areas. Ensure strict adherence to all health, safety, environmental, and regulatory compliance standards. Develop and manage the operational budget, controlling costs and maximizing profitability. Drive innovation in operational processes and technologies to maintain a competitive edge. Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, partners, and stakeholders. Monitor operational performance through key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide regular strategic reports to the executive team.

Requirements

Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA), Operations Management, Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience in operations management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role (Director or VP level). Extensive experience in the manufacturing industry, with a proven ability to manage large-scale, complex operations. Demonstrated expertise in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, supply chain management, and financial management. Exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and decision-making skills. Strong understanding of financial principles and P&L management. Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to drive significant operational improvements and achieve strategic goals. Experience in a unionized environment is an advantage. Proficiency in relevant ERP systems and operations management software.
