Job summary

Salix Recruitment represents a well-established rooibos export and marketing company seeking an Operational Accountant to join the Finance team in the Western Cape. This role offers broader commercial exposure beyond traditional accounting, with involvement in logistics, cost control and international exports.

The successful candidate will support month-end, manage financial records and collaborate with operational teams to drive cost savings and process improvements across finance and supply

Qualifications

• Matric (Grade 12) and a Bachelors Degree in Accounting (BCom Honours).
• Completed articles with 3+ years' experience in financial or operational accounting.
• Experience in FMCG, retail or sales-driven environments is advantageous.
• Strong Excel skills; familiarity with accounting software (Dynamics 365 BC advantageous).

Responsibilities

• Process and verify financial transactions, supplier invoices, purchase orders and operational expenses.
• Monitor expenditure, assist with budget amendments and investigate variances.
• Perform reconciliations and monitor costs to identify discrepancies and cost-saving opportunities.
• Support month-end processes and financial reporting.
• Maintain accurate financial records and accounting systems.
• Coordinate international freight bookings and export shipments, including tracking and documentation.
• Liaise with freight forwarders and shipping agents.
• Capture and reconcile freight/export costs and verify invoices.
• Identify opportunities to improve financial and operational processes.

Job Experience & Skills Required:

Qualifications:

Experience:

• Completed Articles 3+ years' experience in financial or operational accounting.
• Experience within FMCG, retail or a sales-driven environment would be advantageous.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
• Experience with accounting software; Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central would be advantageous.
