Job summary

Kwena Human Capital is seeking an Environmental & Permits Officer for the Redstone PV + BESS Project in South Africa. The role covers environmental compliance, permitting, monitoring and reporting on a 19 MWp PV plant with a 30 MWh BESS, operating in a full-time, site-based environment within a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years' relevant environmental experience, preferably within construction, infrastructure, mining, renewable energy or EPC projects.
• Proven experience in environmental compliance monitoring and reporting.
• Practical experience with Environmental Authorisations (EA).
• Practical experience with Water Use Licence (WULA) requirements and compliance.
• Knowledge of Environmental Management Programmes (EMPr) and environmental compliance conditions.
• Experience coordinating or reviewing ECO reports and conducting environmental inspections.
• Experience maintaining environmental compliance registers and tracking corrective actions.
• Experience monitoring contractor and subcontractor environmental compliance.
• Strong knowledge of South African environmental legislation and permitting requirements.
• Experience working with environmental consultants, ECOs, contractors and project management teams.
• Solar PV / renewable energy project experience will be highly advantageous.
• Must be willing to work full-time on site.

Responsibilities

• Support the project team in delivering works according to the approved programme, specifications and project requirements.
• Coordinate activities with other disciplines, subcontractors and project stakeholders.
• Monitor progress and identify potential delays or constraints.
• Ensure activities are completed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards.
• Review drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
• Support design close-out and resolution of technical queries/RFIs where applicable.
• Coordinate technical interfaces between PV, electrical, BESS, SCADA/PTMC and other disciplines.
• Provide technical support during construction, testing and commissioning.
• Supervise and coordinate site activities within the relevant discipline.
• Manage work fronts and subcontractor activities.
• Ensure materials and equipment are available when required.
• Monitor productivity, progress and workmanship.
• Ensure works comply with approved drawings, specifications, ITPs and quality requirements.
• Support inspections, punch-list activities and close-out.
• Maintain accurate project records and as-built documentation.
• Comply with project HSE requirements and South African legislation.
• Participate in risk assessments, toolbox talks and site inspections.
• Exercise stop-work authority where applicable.
• Promote a strong safety culture throughout the project.
