Job summary

EXCELLENCE IN PGM's is seeking personnel to safely load and unload materials, provide signaling to hoist drivers, and coordinate shaft transport operations. You will ensure safety standards and housekeeping within the work area, while complying with mine regulations.

The role requires Grade 12 or NQF 4 and an Onsetter Certificate, with a focus on health and safety and efficient signaling practices to support uninterrupted shaft operations.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 or NQF 4 equivalent is required.
• Onsetter Certificate is required or must be obtainable.

Responsibilities

• Transports explosives and accessories by rolling stock.
• Gives and receives signals to/from hoist drivers for starting and stopping conveyances.
• Coordinates transport schedules for minerals, materials and equipment.
• Loads and unloads rolling stock into shaft conveyances and with passengers.
• Maintains housekeeping in the work area and safety standards.

Job description

PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

To safely load and unload men, materials and equipment into and from shaft conveyances and to give necessary signals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

• Grade 12 or NQF 4 equivalent
• Onsetter Certificate

COMPETENCIES:

• Demonstrate knowledge pertaining to basic health and safety principles in a workplace.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the functions and the operation of signaling arrangements and safety devices in a shaft.
• Demonstrate an understanding of shaft signals.
• Implements initiatives aimed at eliminating waste, improving productivity and reducing operating costs within scope and assists with the implementation thereof to contribute to the achievement of operational objectives.
• Supports and participates in change management initiatives to drive transformation and optimization.
• Builds, support and maintains healthy diverse internal and external relations and implements remedial actions where required.
• Adheres to safety regulations and mine standards, procedures and practices and reports non-compliance.
• Performs regular inspections in area of work and reports hazards to ensure environment is safety and hazards free and recommends remedial action where necessary.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Transports explosives and accessories by means of rolling stock.
• Gives and receives signals to/from hoist drivers for starting and stopping conveyances.
• Coordinates schedules for the transport of minerals, materials and equipment.
• Loads and removes rolling stock into and from shaft conveyances.
• Loads and unloads persons into and from shaft conveyances.
• Loads long materials in to shaft conveyances.
• Maintains housekeeping standards in the work area.
• Perform basic firefighting.
• Perform basic first aid.
• Identify, inspect, use and care for engineering hand tools.
• Select, use and care for measuring equipment.
• Signal on a lock bell system.
