Job summary

The Road Accident Fund in Centurion, Gauteng, invites applications for a governance-focused Privacy Officer. Reporting to the Manager: Privacy Office, the role implements POPIA-compliant policies and handles POPI requests within statutory timelines.

The successful candidate will analyse requests, coordinate with Regions, draft advisory opinions, and contribute to monthly reporting and awareness initiatives across the organisation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree/ Advanced Diploma in Law/ Compliance/ Risk Management related qualification.
• Relevant 3 years’ experience in a Risk Management/ Compliance related environment, with a focus on privacy.

Responsibilities

• Administration and resolution of POPI requests within legislated timelines.
• Analyse POPI requests and ensure they meet procedural requirements.
• Provide assistance to requestors to comply with procedures.
• Coordinate requests with Regions or business units as needed.
• Attend to Court Orders, Notices of Motions and Subpoenas as directed.
• Identify shortfalls and report non-compliance with POPI, SOP and Policy.
• Engage Regions to ensure timelines are met and develop POPI processes.

The Road Accident Fund’s mission is to provide timely and equitable assistance to those affected by motor vehicle accidents through the provision of appropriate social benefits to ensure financial relief and recovery for qualifying individuals.

Purpose of the Job

Reporting to the Manager: Privacy Office, the successful incumbent is responsible for the implementation of policies and procedures related to the organisations privacy program in accordance with the POPIA Act and other related legislation.

Key Performance Areas

Administration and Resolution of POPI Requests within Legislated Timelines

• Compliance with POPI, SOP and Policy.
• Analyse POPI requests received and establish if it meets the procedural requirements in terms of the Act.
• Provide the necessary assistance to requestors to ensure they comply with procedural requirements.
• Request records from the Regions or business units as and when new requests are assigned, queries or complaints are lodged.
• Keep track of and ensure timely resolution of POPI requests and queries.
• Attend to Court Orders, Notice of Motions and Subpoenas as directed by the Manager.
• Identify shortfalls and non-compliance with POPI, SOP and Policy and bring them to the attention of the manager

Escalation of Delayed POPI Requests

• Engage and follow up with the regions or business units regarding outstanding POPI requests or Complaints to ensure that legislative timelines are met.
• Give input on development of POPI processes and procedures.

Increased Accessibility, Efficiency and Visibility of the POPI Unit

• Publications of articles on POPI.
• Raise awareness through POPI awareness campaigns and education
• Conduct POPI training to lower-level staff.
• Ensure constant engagements with the regions and business units to expedite POPI requests, queries and Complaints.

Advisory Opinion

• Draft Advisory Opinions as requested by Buisness units.
• Make recommendations on compliance.
• Research Legislation or Case Law or Articles relating to POPI.

Enhanced Reporting with Trend Analysis and Business Improvement Effects

• Submit monthly and quarterly stats to the Manager with trend analysis and business improvement effects.
• Efficient and accurate reporting

Stakeholder Relations

• Assist with inquiries and requests for information from both internal and external stakeholders.
• Contribute to the maintenance of relationships with vendors, service providers or procurement teams and ensure that all relevant procured items are invoiced and paid on time.

Qualifications And Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree/ Advanced Diploma in Law/ Compliance/ Risk Management related qualification.
• Relevant 3 years’ experience in a Risk Management/ Compliance related environment, with a focus on privacy.
