Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a talented Machine Learning Engineer specializing in NLP in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. You will design, train, and deploy state-of-the-art NLP models powering chatbots, sentiment analysis, and content generation.

You will collaborate with data scientists and software engineers to ship production-ready solutions in a fast-paced team. The ideal candidate brings 5+ years in ML/NLP, strong Python skills, and hands-on experience with modern ML libraries and NLP frameworks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, AI, Linguistics, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in machine learning engineering with a focus on NLP.
• Proficiency in Python and ML/NLP libraries (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, NLTK, spaCy, or Hugging Face).
• Solid understanding of core NLP concepts, algorithms and techniques.
• Experience deploying ML models in production environments.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP) and Docker is a plus.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; good communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, train, and deploy NLP models for text classification, NER, topic modeling and QA.
• Implement and fine-tune architectures such as Transformers, LSTMs, CNNs.
• Process and analyze large text datasets with feature engineering and preprocessing.
• Collaborate with data scientists to evaluate performance and iterate improvements.
• Build and maintain ML pipelines for data ingestion, training, evaluation, and deployment in production.
• Optimize models for performance, scalability and efficiency.
• Stay updated with NLP research and advancements.
• Collaborate with software teams to integrate models into customer-facing apps.
• Document development processes, findings and deployment procedures.
