Job summary

Tharisa Minerals is seeking an IT Network Specialist to install, configure and maintain the physical network across TM sites, ensuring availability and performance. You will co-design cabling plans and conduct cable testing to resolve connectivity issues, while organizing equipment and upholding safety standards.

The role includes monitoring network performance, supporting IT departments, and contributing to infrastructure projects, including mine site cabling and CCTV systems.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot physical network infrastructure to ensure availability and performance.
• Co-design infrastructure and plan installation of network cabling (copper, fibre, wireless).
• Conduct cable testing using cable testers to troubleshoot connectivity issues.
• Organise and label network equipment for easy identification and maintenance.
• Implement network solutions to meet TM requirements and industry best practices.
• Monitor network performance and availability using monitoring tools to identify issues.
• Contribute to IT Network Infrastructure Projects from planning to commissioning.
• Conduct site surveys for planning and LAN development to support installation.
• Provide IT technical support to IT Department Groups/Teams ensuring prompt assistance.
• Support Tharisa Mine departments with LAN cabling, instrumentation/OT cabling, and CCTV infrastructure development.
• Provide physical support by moving IT equipment between sites as needed.
• Support contractors with Safety File audit scheduling and documentation during audits.
• Provide responsibility for Networking rooms, UPSs, air conditioning, gas and fire suppression servicing to protect IT infrastructure.

Purpose of Role

To install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Tharisa Minerals’ (TM’s) physical network infrastructure, under guidance, implementing solutions as agreed together with superior, to enable network availability and performance, and apply IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), standards and policies.

Compliance, Risk and Safety

• Identify and mitigate potential safety hazards associated with network installations or maintenance activities, adhering to health and safety guidelines and regulations.

Data Analytics and Reporting

• Update and maintain the asset database containing documentation of network infrastructure, to enable the tracking of network equipment and warranty information.

Process and Technology

• Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot physical network infrastructure, such as network points, for computers, phone devices, office and domestic electrical equipment, by inspecting, cleaning, and repairing equipment, to ensure network availability and performance.
• Co-design infrastructure and recommend plans for the installation of network cabling infrastructure, including copper, fibre optic and wireless connections, to enable efficient and reliable transmission of communications.
• Conduct cable testing using cable testers and related tools, to troubleshoot and resolve connectivity issues, thus ensuring proper connectivity.
• Organise and label network equipment for ease of identification and maintenance.
• Implement network solutions to meet TM requirements and industry best practices.
• Monitor network performance and availability using network monitoring tools to identify and mitigate network issues.
• Contribute towards new IT Network Infrastructure Projects through building expansions, designing, planning, executing, and commissioning certain aspects, to enable successful IT projects.
• Conduct site surveying for input into planning, stock/material procurement based on business requests, as well as LAN infrastructure development, to support the design and installation of network infrastructure.
• Provide IT technical support to the IT Department Groups/Teams, including those related to helpdesk requests, systems administration, and network engineering, ensuring the provision of prompt technical support.
• Provide IT technical support to Tharisa Mine Departments including the Electrical MCC’s physical LAN cabling, instrumentation/OT physical communication cabling, Mining Technology Physical communication cabling, Protection services for CCTV physical cabling and LAN infrastructure development, to support the design and installation of network infrastructure.
• Provide physical support by moving IT equipment between sites to enable the provision of IT infrastructure when required.
• Support IT contractors with Safety File audit scheduling, arrangement, and management to enable the provision of relevant documentation during audits.
• Provide technical support related to taking responsibility for IT Networking rooms, UPS’s, air conditioners, GAS and Fire suppression servicing management to enable the protection of all IT infrastructure.

Resource Management

• Provide input into required changes in resources (financial or non-financial) to enable the achievement of team and/or own objectives.
• Determine resource needs of the team and/or own area of work to achieve business outcomes.
• Request and allocate required assets and/or resources for the fulfilment of work objectives to guarantee quality outputs.
• Monitor the use of assets and resources within own area of responsibility, to ensure assets and resources are consistently and appropriately utilised and managed.

Stakeholder Relations

• Communicate with all relevant Departments on issues of the area of speciality. Liaise across the relevant Departments by engaging with the appropriate stakeholders to ensure all stakeholders remain abreast of Departmental objectives, any potential derailers are appropriately managed and duplication of work is avoided.
• Communicate with internal and/or external stakeholders, where required, to achieve work objectives and to maintain relationships.

Supervisory Oversight

• Lead the team according to Tharisa Minerals’ leadership principles and values throughout the entire employee life cycle (performance management, reward etc) to ensure, inter alia, a high-performance culture.
