Job summary

Tharisa Plc is seeking an IT Network Technician to install and maintain the physical network infrastructure across mining sites. The role involves inspecting, cleaning, repairing equipment, and ensuring reliable network availability for computers, phones, and devices.

The incumbent will update the asset database, perform cable testing, label equipment, and provide technical support to IT teams, under supervision, contributing to TM project expansions and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

Purpose of Role

To install and maintain Tharisa Minerals’ (TM’s) physical network infrastructure, under close supervision, implementing solutions as recommended by superiors, to support network availability and performance.

Role Context

• Identify and report potential safety hazards associated with network installations or maintenance activities, adhering to health and safety guidelines and regulations.

Purpose of Role

To install and maintain Tharisa Minerals’ (TM’s) physical network infrastructure, under close supervision, implementing solutions as recommended by superiors, to support network availability and performance.

Role Context

Compliance, Risk and Safety

• Identify and report potential safety hazards associated with network installations or maintenance activities, adhering to health and safety guidelines and regulations.

Data Analytics and Reporting

• Update the allocated section of the asset database containing documentation of network infrastructure, to support the tracking of network equipment and warranty information.

Process and Technology

• Install and maintain physical network infrastructure, such as network points, for computers, phone devices, office and domestic electrical equipment, by inspecting, cleaning, and repairing equipment, to support efficient network availability and performance.
• Install network cabling infrastructure, including copper, fibre optic and wireless connections, according to planned designs, to support efficient and reliable transmission of communications.
• Conduct cable testing using cable testers and related tools, to identify connectivity issues, reporting problems to supervisor to support proper connectivity.
• Label network equipment for ease of identification and maintenance.
• Implement network solutions, under guidance, to meet TM requirements and industry best practices.
• Contribute towards new IT Network Infrastructure Projects through building and executing certain aspects of expansions, to support successful IT projects.
• Provide IT technical support to the IT Department Groups/Teams, including those related to helpdesk requests, systems administration, and network engineering, ensuring the provision of prompt technical support.
• Provide IT technical support, under supervision, to Tharisa Mine Departments including the Electrical MCC’s physical LAN cabling, instrumentation/OT physical communication cabling, Mining Technology Physical communication cabling, Protection services for CCTV physical cabling and LAN infrastructure development, to support the design and installation of network infrastructure.
• Provide physical support by moving IT equipment movement between sites to enable the provision of IT infrastructure when required.

Resource Management

• Provide input into required changes in resources (financial or non-financial) to enable the achievement of own objectives.
• Determine resource needs of own area of work to achieve business outcomes.
• Request and allocate required assets and/or resources for the fulfilment of work objectives to guarantee quality outputs.
• Monitor the use of assets and resources within own area of responsibility, to ensure assets and resources are consistently and appropriately utilised and managed.

Stakeholder Relations

• Communicate with all relevant Departments on issues of the area of speciality. Liaise across the relevant Departments by engaging with the appropriate stakeholders to ensure all stakeholders remain abreast of Departmental objectives, any potential derailers are appropriately managed and duplication of work is avoided.
• Communicate with internal and/or external stakeholders, where required, to achieve work objectives and to maintain relationships.
