We are seeking an experienced National Facilities Manager to provide strategic leadership, specialist technical advice and governance across Facilities Management, Operational Services and Building Services for a national property portfolio.
This is a senior, portfolio-wide role responsible for developing and implementing national facilities strategies, establishing standards and governance, supporting centre and property management teams, and driving consistency and operational excellence across multiple locations.
The successful candidate will bring strong technical expertise together with significant experience in multi-site facilities management, procurement, service contract management, utilities, sustainability, lifecycle planning and people leadership.
Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering – BSc, BEng or BTech.
At least 8–10 years' relevant facilities, engineering or operations management experience.
Demonstrable experience operating across a multi-site or national property portfolio.
Strong technical knowledge of building services, maintenance and lifecycle management.
Proven experience managing facilities-related budgets, Capex and operating expenditure.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong stakeholder-management and leadership capability.
We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in the following areas:
Developing and implementing portfolio-wide facilities and operational strategies.
Multi-site procurement, including specification development, tender methodology, adjudication, vendor evaluation, selection and contract award.
Drafting, implementing and managing service contracts and SLAs.
Managing contractor performance, including the application of penalties, sanctions and the resolution of contractual disputes.
Sustainability strategy and implementation.
Identifying and implementing energy-efficiency and sustainability initiatives.
Carbon measurement and reporting.
Renewable energy initiatives, including experience with wheeling arrangements and Renewable Energy Certificates.
Utility management, including analysis and improvement of utility recovery ratios.
Lifecycle planning and development of rolling preventative-maintenance programmes.
Managing technical risk and high-risk building-services issues.
Capex planning, scoping and project oversight.
Leading and influencing teams across geographically dispersed locations.
Performance management, conflict resolution and management of non-compliance with agreed standards or methodologies.
Recruitment, selection and development of Facilities Management and Building Services professionals.
Strong understanding of statutory, regulatory and Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
In this role you will:
Develop operational strategies for Facilities Management and lifecycle strategies for portfolio assets.
Provide specialist Operational Services and Building Services advice to centre management, property teams and key stakeholders.
Identify new technologies, sustainability opportunities and improved ways of working.
Develop technical specifications and scopes for Capex, maintenance and operational projects.
Develop and oversee rolling maintenance and lifecycle plans.
Provide oversight of Capex, abnormal maintenance, day-to-day maintenance and operational budgets.
Lead facilities-related procurement processes across multiple sites.
Participate in tender adjudication, vendor selection and contract awards.
Develop, review and manage service contracts and SLAs.
Monitor contractor performance and address non-performance, contractual breaches and disputes.
Lead utility-management initiatives and improve recovery and cost performance.
Identify, develop and implement sustainability and energy-management initiatives.
Support carbon-reporting and renewable-energy initiatives across the portfolio.
Act as custodian of Operational Services and Building Services policies, procedures, standards and SLAs.
Conduct or oversee compliance audits and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
Identify, assess and recommend service providers and technical vendors.
Provide oversight of major projects undertaken across the portfolio.
Represent Facilities Management in developments, refurbishments and extensions.
Facilitate sharing of best practice across centres and properties.
Provide leadership, guidance and technical support to Facilities Management and Building Services teams.
Support recruitment, succession planning, performance management and development of FM staff.
Manage departmental operating costs and contribute to portfolio financial performance.
