Job description

About the Role

We are looking for a skilled and adaptable Multi-Brand Repair Technician to join our Service Centre team.

This is not a single-brand repair role. As our product portfolio continues to grow, we need a technician who is comfortable working across different consumer electronics categories, learning new technologies quickly and developing the technical capability required to support new brands as they enter the business.

You will be responsible for the diagnosis, repair, testing, technical assessment and after-sales support of products across an expanding multi-brand portfolio.

A key part of the role will also be helping us build repair capability for new product categories — including completing manufacturer certifications, understanding new diagnostic and repair requirements, ensuring the correct tools and processes are in place and transferring technical knowledge to the wider Service Centre team.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Repairs & Diagnostics

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, test and release products across multiple consumer electronics categories.
  • Accurately identify customer-reported faults and ensure issues are fully resolved before products are released.
  • Complete technical assessments and prepare accurate repair quotations where required.
  • Work according to manufacturer repair guides, warranty policies and technical procedures.
  • Manage units requiring referral to manufacturers or approved third-party repair partners.
  • Maintain strong turnaround times while ensuring repair quality and accuracy.

New Brand & Product Capability

  • Complete manufacturer certification and accreditation for newly introduced brands and product categories.
  • Develop technical knowledge across new and unfamiliar product categories.
  • Support workshop readiness by identifying tooling, diagnostic software, firmware, test equipment and parts requirements.
  • Assist in developing repair procedures and diagnostic checklists for new products.
  • Identify technical capability, tooling and training gaps and escalated these appropriately.
  • Share product knowledge and technical learnings with other members of the Service Centre team.

Quality & Process Management

  • Maintain a consistently high standard of workmanship across all repairs.
  • Follow prescribed quality-control processes before releasing repaired devices.
  • Handle customer devices carefully throughout the repair process.
  • Use repair tools and equipment correctly to prevent damage or secondary faults.
  • Maintain accurate intake and post-repair photographic records where required.
  • Maintain an organised, safe and professional workshop environment.
  • Minimise repeat repairs, repair-related damage and quality failures.

Repair Administration

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date repair records within the Service Centre systems.
  • Capture clear diagnostic findings, fault codes, repair actions and customer-facing notes.
  • Produce accurate quotations based on technical diagnosis and parts requirements.
  • Ensure parts are ordered against the correct device, serial number and warranty status.
  • Complete all relevant repair documentation before units are passed through quality control.
  • Maintain accurate evidence and documentation for manufacturer warranty claims.
  • Ensure device serial numbers, physical condition and repair records remain aligned throughout the repair process.

Parts & Stock Accountability

  • Maintain accountability for parts and spares allocated to repairs.
  • Return used, faulty and scrap parts according to required warehouse and manufacturer processes.
  • Ensure returned parts are correctly labelled and documented.
  • Assist in identifying slow-moving, obsolete or superseded parts associated with new product categories.
  • Maintain accurate alignment between physical units, repair status and system records.

Technical Certification & Continuous Learning

  • Maintain all required manufacturer and product certifications.
  • Stay current with manufacturer technical bulletins, service articles, repair procedures and product updates.
  • Complete required refresher, certification and self-study programmes.
  • Maintain a strong continuous-learning mindset as the product and brand portfolio evolves.

Customer Experience

  • Provide clear and accurate technical information to customer-facing teams.
  • Support realistic repair turnaround times and customer expectations.
  • Ensure repair notes can be clearly understood by both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Minimise escalations caused by repair quality, communication or avoidable delays.
  • Take ownership of the customer experience associated with each repair.

Health, Safety & Technical Compliance

  • Follow all required ESD procedures and controls.
  • Maintain a safe and compliant technical workshop environment.
  • Follow OHS requirements and manufacturer safety standards.
  • Comply fully with lithium-ion battery handling, charging, storage, quarantine and transportation requirements.
  • Immediately report safety incidents, risks and near-misses.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Matric.
  • Recognised technical qualification in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related technical discipline.
  • N4–N6, NQF Level 4–5 or equivalent technical qualification.

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years' hardware repair experience within consumer electronics.
  • Demonstrated fault-finding, diagnostics and component or hardware repair capability.

Advantageous:

  • Board-level repair and/or micro-soldering experience.
  • Previous experience within an authorised service centre.
  • Experience working across more than one electronics brand or product category.
  • Exposure to manufacturer warranty and repair portals.

Key Competencies

We are looking for someone with:

  • Strong technical troubleshooting and fault-finding ability.
  • The ability to repair across multiple and potentially unrelated product categories.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong administrative and system accuracy.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • A strong customer-service mindset.
  • Personal accountability and ownership of work.
  • The ability to meet deadlines and SLA-driven turnaround times.
  • Strong problem-solving ability.
  • A continuous-learning mindset and willingness to self-study.
  • The ability to remain composed and prioritise effectively in a busy repair environment.
  • Adaptability and the ability to move between different technologies and repair disciplines.
  • The ability to document technical processes and procedures clearly.
  • Strong safety awareness, particularly when working with lithium-ion batteries.

What Success Looks Like

Success in this role means delivering accurate, efficient and high-quality repairs, while continuously developing the technical capability required to support an expanding multi-brand product portfolio.

You will be someone who enjoys understanding how things work, solving technical problems, learning new technologies and taking ownership from diagnosis through to final quality control.

As new brands and product categories are introduced into the business, you will play an important role in ensuring that our after-sales technical capability grows with them.
