Job summary

Icebolethu Burial Services seeks Part Time General Assistants to support Burial Services in various areas of South Africa. The role involves assisting in removals, mortuary registrations, labeling, and safe handling of bodies, as well as assisting with autopsy prep and funeral setup.

Candidates should have Grade 12 and 1–2 years of burials/funeral experience, strong organizational skills, and the ability to handle sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism.

• Ability to calmly handle difficult or graphic situations.
• Willingness to work odd hours and/or overnight shifts.

Responsibilities

• Assists in removals.
• Registering deceased details on the mortuary register.
• Ensure that items are labelled correctly.
• Wash and store bodies in the mortuary tray as per the register and board number.
• Ensure that all bodies are properly stored in their assigned locations.
• Assist in identifying bodies.
• Clean and prepare bodies for autopsy.
• Cleaning of the mortuary and viewing area.
• Sterilize autopsy equipment and set out all necessary instruments for the pathologist.
• Wash and sterilize all instruments after autopsy.
• Wash and prepare bodies for collection.
• Coffining of bodies.
• Release bodies to families or other authorized persons.
• Communicate with family and friends to provide updates on the autopsy (if necessary).
• Monitor mortuary and record visitor sign-in.
• Assist with funeral grave and hall decoration setup.
• Installation of lowering device machinery.
• Responsible for equipment and materials.
