Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a proactive Mine Safety Manager to lead safety initiatives across operations. The role is remote-based with travel to mine sites as needed, driving a zero-harm safety culture and robust safety systems.

You will develop, implement, and maintain safety management systems, conduct audits, and deliver training across all staff levels while ensuring regulatory compliance in a demanding mining environment.

Qualifications

• Degree or diploma in Safety Management, Occupational Health, or Mining Engineering.
• Minimum 8 years of progressive mine safety experience.
• Strong knowledge of MHSA and SA safety legislation.
• Experience in developing and implementing risk management strategies.
• Proven leadership and strong communication and influencing skills.

About the Role

Our client is looking for a proactive and experienced Mine Safety Manager to lead their safety initiatives and ensure a robust health and safety culture across all operations. While based remotely, this role requires extensive engagement with site teams, travel to operational locations as needed, and a deep commitment to achieving zero harm. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive safety management systems, conducting audits, and driving continuous improvement in safety performance. This position is critical to protecting our workforce and ensuring regulatory compliance in a demanding mining environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and oversee the company-wide Health and Safety Management System.
• Conduct regular safety audits and inspections across all mine sites to identify and mitigate risks.
• Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near misses, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Develop and deliver safety training programs for all levels of staff.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant mining health and safety legislation and regulations.
• Promote a positive and proactive safety culture throughout the organization.

Requirements

• National Diploma or Degree in Safety Management, Occupational Health, or Mining Engineering.
• Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in mine safety management.
• Comprehensive knowledge of MHSA and other relevant South African safety legislation.
• Proven experience in developing and implementing risk management strategies.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and influencing skills.
• Ability to work autonomously and travel to mine sites as required, managing effectively from a remote location.
