Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a skilled Mine Planning Engineer to join open-pit operations near Queenstown, Eastern Cape. Develop short-term and long-term mine plans to optimize resources, production, and costs while ensuring safety and compliance.

You will collaborate with geology, survey and operations teams to translate geological models into executable plans, using Surpac, MineSight or Deswik, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• BEng or BTech in Mining Engineering, with relevant accreditation.
• Minimum 5 years in mine planning, with a strong focus on open-pit mining.
• Proficiency in Surpac, MineSight or Deswik.
• Strong understanding of open-pit mining methods, equipment, and operational constraints.
• Knowledge of geological modeling and reserve estimation principles.
• Strong analytical and detail-oriented problem-solving.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize short-term (daily, weekly) and long-term (annual, life-of-mine) mine plans for open-pit operations.
• Utilize mine planning software to design pit outlines, access routes, haul roads, and production areas.
• Generate detailed blast plans, considering geotechnical conditions and equipment capabilities.
• Collaborate with geologists to interpret resource models and optimize mineable reserves.
• Liaise with survey teams to ensure accurate implementation of mine plans.
• Monitor production performance against targets and revise plans as necessary to address deviations or opportunities.
• Contribute to mine design reviews, feasibility studies, and continuous improvement initiatives.
