Job summary

Dwarsrivier Chrome Mine (Pty) Ltd is seeking a Workplace Coach to mentor and coach experienced Mine Overseers, developing frontline supervisors while reinforcing safety, legal and operational standards. The role reports to HR and aligns with the Section Manager and stakeholders.

The successful candidate will be certified and carry extensive underground mining experience, including Manitoba? (note: assuming local Cert).

Qualifications

• Must have strong practical underground mining knowledge to share experience.
• Experience in mentoring and coaching to develop Miners, Shift Supervisors and Mine Overseer.
• Must have training experience or good communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide practical coaching and mentoring to develop frontline supervisors.
• Ensure alignment of coaching activities with safety, legal and operational requirements.
• Support succession-planning and knowledge transfer within the Mining Department.

Job description

Background

The DCM Mining Department is responsible for conducting safe, efficient and legally compliant mining operations in accordance with the approved Business Plan, mine standards and applicable legislation. To maintain operational excellence and develop a sustainable pipeline of competent Mine Overseers, Shift Supervisors and Miners, the department requires experienced and capable mining supervisors.

As part of DCM’s succession-planning and knowledge-retention initiatives, a need has been identified to transfer critical mining knowledge, practical expertise and operational experience from experienced Mine Overseers to developing employees. The Workplace Coach will play a key role in this process by providing practical coaching and mentoring, reinforcing safety, legal and operational requirements, and supporting the development of competent frontline supervisors.

The Workplace Coach will be based at Human Resources under HRD, however he/she will operate under the guidance of the Section Manager and other relevant stakeholders to ensure that coaching activities align with operational requirements, compliance standards and employee-development objectives.

Minimum requirements

• Valid Mine Overseer Certificate of Competency.
• At least 15 years' mining experience.
• Must be 55 years of age or older.
• Experience as Mine Overseer.
• Must have a Code 8 driver’s licence.

Criteria

• Must have strong practical underground mining knowledge and experience to share knowledge and experience gained throughout their mining career.
• Must have a good understanding of mining standards, procedures and legal requirements.
• Must have qualifications or exposure in mentoring and coaching to transfer practical mining knowledge and skills to developing Miners, Shift Supervisors and Mine Overseer.
• Must have training experience or good communication and interpersonal skills.
