Job summary

Elchemie Recruitment is seeking a qualified Millwright to join the Vaal Triangle water treatment facility, based in Vereeniging/Vanderbijlpark. You will perform maintenance on electro-mechanical plant equipment and respond rapidly to breakdowns.

The role requires a Trade Certificate, 5 years’ post-qualification experience, Three-Phase Wireman’s License (or studying), SCADA/PLCs/VSDs, and a valid driver’s license. Site-based with standby duties and competitive salary.

Qualifications

• Qualified Millwright or Electrician with a recognized Section 13 or Section 26D Trade Certificate (Red Seal).
• Minimum 5 years’ post-qualification experience in maintenance/repair of large electro-mechanical installations (water treatment or heavy industrial plant preferred).
• Three-Phase Wireman’s License (or actively studying towards) and working knowledge of SCADA, PLCs, VSDs.
• Valid driver’s license and own reliable vehicle (essential).
• Able to work in an industrial plant environment with safety standards in mind.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a qualified and proactive Millwright to join their operational team in the Vaal Triangle (Vereeniging / Vanderbijlpark region). Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, this role is responsible for managing and implementing maintenance systems, operational processes, and monitoring activities across a water treatment facility. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on problem solver who excels in electro‑mechanical troubleshooting, routine servicing, and rapid breakdown response to ensure continuous plant uptime and adherence to strict safety standards.

What you’ll be doing

Primary Function – Maintenance Execution & Breakdown Resolution

• Plan and execute routine servicing, repairs, and preventative maintenance on electro‑mechanical plant equipment timeously and cost‑effectively.
• Attend to breakdowns promptly, prioritize urgent jobs, and perform accurate fault‑finding on mechanical and electrical systems.
• Ensure optimal operation, monitoring, and condition reporting of all electro‑mechanical plant assets.

Primary Function – Systems, Assets & Compliance

• Ensure adherence to the Maintenance Information System (Service Manager) and maintain an up‑to‑date, clearly marked Asset Register.
• Enforce strict Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act standards, ISO system requirements, and high housekeeping standards.
• Assist with specifications, equipment sourcing, quality control, pricing, and execution for new mechanical and electrical installations.

Secondary Function – Inventory, Control & Reporting

• Ensure specified, approved, and contractually required stock and spare parts levels are maintained.
• Maintain accurate maintenance logs, interpret operational data, and prepare plant condition reports.
• Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and apply sound human resource and control procedures.

What you’ll need

• Trade: Qualified Millwright or Electrician with a recognized Section 13 or Section 26D Trade Certificate (Red Seal).
• Minimum 5 years’ post-qualification experience in the maintenance and repair of large electro‑mechanical installations (water treatment or heavy industrial plant experience preferred).
• Strong electrical troubleshooting background; Three-Phase Wireman’s License (or actively studying towards) and working knowledge of SCADA, PLCs, VSDs, and field instrumentation are strong advantages.
• Licensing & Mobility: Valid driver’s license and own reliable vehicle (essential).
• Clean criminal record and medically fit to work in an industrial plant environment (including confined spaces, working at heights, and shift/standby requirements).
• Residing in or within reasonable commuting distance of the Vereeniging / Vanderbijlpark area.
