Bilnor Labour is seeking skilled Machine Operators to join a growing production team in South Africa. The role includes operating, monitoring and maintaining various types of machinery to ensure efficient, high-quality production.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a Machine Operator or in a similar industrial role is highly preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor production machinery according to established procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Perform routine machine checks including setup, calibration, and basic maintenance.
  • Identify and troubleshoot minor operational issues, escalate complex problems to supervisors or technicians.

  • Ensure application of and adherence to the Maintenance Information system (Service Manager) and ensure all assets are clearly marked and controlled with an Asset Register.
  • Attend breakdowns and prioritize jobs promptly.
  • Plan & perform routine services, repairs and preventative maintenance of the electro-mechanical equipment in a professional and cost-effective manner, timeously.
  • Apply sound human resource principles, administration and control procedures in order to meet performance objectives.
  • Ensure safety and housekeeping meets the standards as set out in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act at high level and comply with all applicable ISO system requirements and ensure continual improvement of these systems.
  • Ensure that specified, approved and contractual required stock levels are kept.
  • High standard of monitoring and reporting on electro-mechanical plant condition.
  • Assist with specifications, sourcing, quality control of equipment required / refurbished / repaired as well as pricing, tendering and implementation on new electrical, mechanical and civil installations.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
  • Qualified Millwright or Electrician having undergone apprenticeship or equivalent training.
  • Require a section 13 or section 26D certificate
  • Wiremans license (3 phase) preferred or studying towards.
  • Five years relevant experience in maintenance of large electrical and mechanical installations.
  • Must have a strong electrical background and be able to trouble shoot accurately and quickly.
  • Five years relevant experience in SCADA and PLC control systems as well as field control instrumentation will be an advantage.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Instrumentation and controls aptitude and awareness will be beneficial
  • Knowledge of appropriate instrumentation principles and practices
  • Operating principles of plant equipment
  • Adequate knowledge of system structures and how to troubleshoot systems by utilizing the knowledge of how the system was designed to perform
  • Operational and safety procedures pertaining to maintenance activities, including safe use of tools and hand tools
  • Maintain pertinent records
  • Read, interpret and understand data
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in written form
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contracted in the course of work
  • Basic understanding of OHS Act and the application thereof
  • Knowledge in VSD applications
  • Knowledge of medium voltage switchgear operating and maintenance principles
  • 22KV overhead power line inspections and maintenance.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Medically fit in line with company client requirements
  • Water treatment plant environment, exposure to noise, vibration, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, solvents, toxic materials, hazardous chemicals within the allowable exposure limits as defined by Department of Labour
  • Exposure to all types of weather and temperature conditions
  • Working in confined spaces
  • Working at heights
  • Work and/or walk on various types of surfaces including uneven surfaces
  • Enough physical ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting, standing and walking for prolonged periods of time, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and operating motorized equipment
  • Good hand-eye-co-ordination
  • See in the normal visual range with or without correction to read computer screens and printed documents and to operate equipment
  • Hear the normal audio range with or without correction
  • The responsibility could include support on other company sites in the region
  • Must own a vehicle, or have own method of transport
  • Be willing to travel
  • Have own accommodation within the region
  • Standby duties after hours and over weekends
