Job summary

Tiger Brands is seeking a maintenance technician to provide electrical and mechanical support to production, packaging, utilities, and facilities equipment, ensuring maximum plant availability and safety.

You will plan and execute preventive and predictive maintenance, diagnose faults, install and commission new equipment, and drive continuous improvements while adhering to safety standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3–5 years’ FMCG/manufacturing maintenance experience.
• Experience with high-speed packaging equipment.
• Troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical systems.
• PLC fault finding knowledge is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Execute preventive and predictive maintenance according to schedules.
• Inspect and monitor plant equipment condition.
• Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and instrumentation faults.
• Respond quickly to breakdowns to minimise downtime.
• Install, commission and test new machinery.
• Participate in energy-saving and cost-reduction initiatives.
• Maintain safety procedures and permit-to-work systems.

What You Will Do

Planned Maintenance

• Execute preventive and predictive maintenance activities according to maintenance schedules.
• Conduct inspections and condition monitoring of plant equipment.
• Ensure all maintenance work is completed to the required quality standards.
• Breakdown Maintenance
• Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and instrumentation faults.
• Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to minimise production downtime.
• Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Equipment Installation and Commissioning
• Install, commission, and test new machinery and equipment.
• Assist with factory acceptance tests (FAT) and site acceptance tests (SAT).
• Ensure new equipment operates according to design specifications.
• Continuous Improvement
• Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability and production efficiency.
• Participate in machine upgrades, modifications, and improvement projects.
• Support energy-saving and cost-reduction initiatives.
• Utilities Maintenance
• Maintain compressed air systems, steam generation equipment, pumps, motors, conveyors, and utility infrastructure.
• Support maintenance of refrigeration, HVAC, and water treatment systems where applicable.
• Production Support
• Work closely with production teams to improve equipment performance.
• Assist operators with technical troubleshooting and equipment optimisation.
• Ensure efficient line start-ups after maintenance activities.
• Safety, Health and Environment
• Adhere to all safety procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, and permit-to-work systems.
• Participate in risk assessments and incident investigations.
• Maintain excellent housekeeping standards within plant and workshop areas.
• Ensure statutory inspections and maintenance records are maintained.
• Minimum Qualifications
• N4 Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• Recognised Millwright Trade Test (Red Seal).
• Valid driver's licence (advantageous).

Experience

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE TABL

• Minimum 3 to 5 years' experience in an FMCG, beverage, food, packaging, or manufacturing environment.
• Experience with high-speed packaging equipment and process machinery.
• Experience in troubleshooting both mechanical and electrical systems.

• PLC fault finding and basic programming knowledge.
• Variable Speed Drives (VSDs).
• Motors, gearboxes, conveyors, pumps, and compressors.
