Job summary

Tiger Brands is seeking a skilled Fitter/Maintenance Technician to maintain and improve manufacturing, packaging and utility equipment in our plant. You will perform preventive and breakdown maintenance, assist with installation and commissioning, and implement improvements to ensure safe, reliable operations.

The role requires an N4 in Mechanical Engineering and a Red Seal Trade Certificate (Fitter/Turner/Millwright) or equivalent, with strong troubleshooting and independent work skills.

Qualifications

• Must have N4 Mechanical Engineering qualification.
• Red Seal Trade Certificate in Fitter/Turner/Millwright or equivalent recognised trade.
• Strong mechanical fitting and troubleshooting skills.
• Good understanding of packaging machinery and industrial equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance on production, packaging and utility equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical faults and repair equipment to minimise downtime.
• Assist with installation, commissioning and start-up of new machinery.
• Drive equipment improvements to enhance performance, safety and reliability.
• Support safety compliance, housekeeping, and risk assessments in the workshop.

What You Will Do

Preventive Maintenance

• Perform planned maintenance on production, packaging and utility equipment.
• Inspect machinery and identify potential failures before breakdowns occur.
• Ensure equipment reliability and optimal performance.

Breakdown Maintenance

• Diagnose mechanical faults and equipment failures.
• Carry out repairs efficiently to minimise downtime.
• Use appropriate diagnostic techniques to determine root causes.

Installation and Commissioning

• Install new machinery and equipment.
• Assist with commissioning and start-up activities.
• Verify that equipment operates according to specifications.

Equipment Improvements

• Modify or upgrade equipment to improve: Performance Efficiency Safety Reliability

Safety and Compliance

• Follow Tiger Brands safety procedures and engineering standards.
• Maintain housekeeping in workshops and production areas.
• Participate in risk assessments and safety inspections.

Minimum Qualifications

• Strong understanding of mechanical systems and industrial equipment.
