TaxTim is a digital tax assistant in Cape Town, delivering tax returns via a chat-like interface. You’ll work on upgrading our PHP codebase, migrate to RESTful Symfony APIs, and front-end in ReactJS, while maintaining AWS-based production systems.

We value a bachelor’s in CS/SE, 2+ years PHP and database experience, and a collaborative, self-driven approach. Expect a semi-remote hybrid model with an emphasis on practical, open-source-inspired development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 2+ years PHP experience with OOP.
• 2+ years MySQL/PostgreSQL experience.
• 2+ years Symfony or Laravel experience.
• 2+ years Git usage.
• Comfortable in Linux (Ubuntu).
• Fluent English, collaborative mindset.

Responsibilities

• Architect, develop and maintain internal and client-facing functionality from inception to deployment.
• Write clean, efficient, reusable PHP code using SOLID, DRY, KISS.
• Monitor, test and upgrade existing features; refactor legacy code.
